LOTW

We have a big group outing on LOTW next Wednesday through Sunday. Can anyone tell me who I could contact to ask about plowed roads out from Sportsman Lodge? We were hoping to use trucks and UTVs and just fish right off the plowed roads. I also heard they sell road passes. Where do you buy them from?

    Thanks

I would call Sportsman’s Lodge and ask them. They should have up to date information.
Also, if you are staying with them the road passes may be included.

Give Sportsmans a call, but just a head’s up with another major storm coming for the area later this week and winds up to 55 MPH many resorts may be permanently shutting down their roads for the season. There is so much water and slush and with new snow coming and high winds it certainly isn’t going to help the situation.
I realize you are talking a week from now, but the storm will be cranking up into the weekend with the dig out and assessment of conditions not really starting until end of the weekend early next week.

I’m going to guess that you will be going out through Adreans or The Wigwam.

We went out of Zippels two weekends ago and things were sketchy then with slush and snow. And when you say fish right off of plowed roads not sure how you are going to do that. The plowed road banks were slush and up to nearly the windows on a 4X4 truck. Didn’t see a single solitary snowmobile, ATV or UTV venture out all weekend.

You might be able to find a spot where a wheel house was that is plowed out and fish that but be ready to be dealing with water on the ice.

    That doesn’t sound promising.

I was thinking of heading up Monday the 18th and getting motels in Warroad or Baudette. Driving out. Fishing portables. Maybe not. I’ll give Sportsman a call on Sat/Sun.

I am pretty sure Sportsmans doesn’t do road passes. They take you out to their houses. Wigwam and Adrian’s do road passes.

A friend of mine was planning on going this weekend with a wheel house and was told they were not going to maintain their roads through the weekend. Not sure what resort he talked to but I’d definitely be calling ahead before driving up. Conditions are miserable up there and only going to get worse by this weekend.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Sounds like I will have to call this weekend or Monday and make a last minute decision.

This doesn’t make me very happy. WTF! Suppose to head up Friday and fish through Monday AM. I have been working like a ding dong and need this trip!!!

Unless you have a guaranteed plowed spot, I wouldn’t even bother. Most resorts closing their roads tomorrow temporarily and many don’t allow wheelhouses now even. It’s a struggle to fish even with a snowmobile and portable. Slush is starting to derail things even further.

Good luck. It’s a mess and getting worse. Went out Saturday and the road we used was ok. You can’t drive off of a plowed spot. Was in the mid 30’s yesterday and slopped things up.
Friends are up fishing and decided to go out of a resort due to limited lake travel opportunities. The bomber they were in yesterday got stuck in slush.

Was just informed by Wigwam this afternoon they are pulling everything and shutting down for the season. My son and I really look forward to this every year. Kind of our spring break get away. Wondering if this is the case for all resorts? Earlier today they said they were going to move us from a sleeper to a day shack. This afternoon they decided to shut the whole thing down. Disappointing but I get it.

Zipple Bay is staying open. Hope you and the kid can find something there.

Its a mess all over the lake…slush, water on roads, warm temps and the big storm coming just asking for trouble in my opinion wheel houses just need to stay home. Some resorts are shutting down for the season.

The weather we are having now looks to be the final touch to pretty much shutting down the lake. A few inches of wet snow already on the ground and high winds.
