loose trailer brake caliper bolts

I have a 2010 Skeeter on a EZ Loader Skeeter trailer. Twice now I have experienced brake caliper bolts falling off and causing the caliper to rotate and puncture the inside of the wheel. The calipers were replaced last year and yesterday while haveing the bearings serviced, I was told that one set of bolts were loose again. Wondering if anyone else has had this issue.

Yep and ruined 2 rims before I realized what was going on a couple of years ago. Red Loctite is your friend and good idea to check them before each trip anyway.

I too have had the same issue. It was also a 2010 easy loader with a skeeter. The caliper punctured my rims also. Makes a pretty nasty noise at highway speeds that’s for sure! Clean up the bolt and area of Grease and use Red loctite and I put a lock washer on the bolt also and never had another issue… Here I thought I was the only one!!!

I would use Blue Loctite. The Red is a little stout for brake calipers.

Happened to be on a 2008 trailer a few years ago. Had to replace the caliper and bleed the lines. I put lock tight on and have sense sold the trailer/boat.

I would agree, blue is the way to go. If I’m not mistaken most guide pin bolts are “supposed” be replaced after removal. I’m not sure if they’re torque to yield or not, but I believe you’re supposed to replace them. I’m guessing very few do, and I would just use Locktight and live.
