LOOOONG Line to Canada

If anyone is thinking they are going to get to Canada via International Falls in a reasonable time they will be sadly mistaken. I’ve heard the line is over 2 miles long going into Canada and has taken people hours and hours.

Also whatever papers you need to get in, especially Covid wise, you better have filled out or you will get turned back.

I haven’t confirmed any of this, just passing on what I have been told and seen on the book of faces.

Well I guess this doesn’t really surprise me. Clearly this was not going to be a smooth or seamless transition.

Patience is the key word here. Like next year patience or longer. If its gonna be this hard to get in why bother at all?

Live wait time data says 7 hours to get into Canada.

Not surprising, really, for day 1. IMO you’d have to nuts to try to cross into Canada on day 1 with all the strike turmoil added to the time that will be needed to go through Canada’s process for getting in.

Also, you can bet there will be high numbers of people showing up without having done thier homework on requirements, so this was always going to be a SLOOOOOOOOOW start. Crazy to try it on day 1.

Ya I hope the rush settles down by Sept. 3 or 4th. We most likely will be crossing the border late at night, so that will help a lot as well I think. I can live with a few Hours of delay if necessary. My guess is it will get better once the initial rush settles down. There are probably lots of us residents who have homes and property in Canada who really want to get there to check on things. I’m sure this is adding to the rush right now

I heard it’s a lot easier to get in our southern border, FYI.

I watched sooo many trucks pulling big water big dollar rigs north past Outing on Hwy 6 Saturday afternoon. I figured they were headed up to the border ahead of time figuring there would be a long wait. Can one cross in the middle of the night? Might be less of a line then? Is there somewhere on line where one can see the wait times for the different crossings across MN?

The larger bigger border crossing are all open 24 Hr. a day. This is most likely just a day one or at the worst a week # 1 issue. My guess is by this time next week the wait times will be about what they normally are.

Man, how about all the truckers that go into Canada on a daily basis. This is a major PITA for them.

Sounds like enough to make you forget the detour. For the highway missing thru town. Don’t they throw the biggest fishing tourney of the year in the mix in a week or so.

In case anyone is interested in first hand info, I just crossed the border this morning…

The line was zero cars deep. Took an extra 2 minutes to go over COVID info. The sky is not falling. Canada is still awesome.

I wouldn’t be going now except the resort we made plans with 2 years ago is demanding we come or lose deposit.

I know 2 families that own cabins in Canada that they haven’t been to in almost 2 years. They were part of the 2 mile long group of cars and I know they had no problem waiting for 7 hours when they have been waiting this long.

Don’t think I’d be doing any business with them in the future

Wow, this makes the late winter lines at the Rainy River boat launches look like child’s play by comparison. Wow.

Went to Baudette on Monday morning. From the time I got to the foot of the bridge on the minnesota side til they searched my truck and boat I was on my way in under 50 minutes.

I got in line in Baudette on Monday (the 9th) at 5am. After a 1-hour wait, and a 3-minute conversation with the border officers, we were in Canada. Easy! An hour later we were at the resort on LotW, and an hour after that I’m holding a 45″er. 3 hours total from getting in line, to getting the first muskie of the week.

I managed 4 fish on “ReOpening Day” alone – absolutely worth the minor hassle, as the crazy stupid winds from Tuesday-Friday were wayyyyy worse than the process of crossing the border. My buddy capped a great week off with a thick trophy. Once in a lifetime chance to cast at fish that had been untouched for 2 years…

Father in law and two buddies crossed at International Falls the morning of Fri the 13th heading to Temple Bay Lodge. Spent about 15 min in line. They did a guided package and the four of them caught 197 walleyes yesterday.
