Haha. I was just talking about that with a friend on Monday. I think it was around the middle of the month because my last bass expedition was on Oct 10 last year and we slaughtered them with the water temp being 54 degrees. Don’t see any snow in the forecast this time.
I observed 69 degrees on Monday and the fishing was awful.
I’m heading up to Hayward a week from tomorrow to get after smallmouth for 4 days. Can’t wait, it’s my first time going up there. Staying on Round and will explore some others up there as well. Really hoping to get into some good fishing. Crappies and walleye will be secondary targets.

I got out a couple hours today – weather was way way above average but fishing was still not where it should be. Didn’t find much on isolated boulders, although got 2 on a tube by the rock piles. Got a fair amount of fish on a Dark Sleeper covering flats and drop-offs in 4-8 fow but fairly small/medium sized fish.
We need upper 50’s water temps to the rescue!

Yup. I had a great duck hunt in the snow on Tuesday, Oct 6th last year. Instead of the normal 2 1/2 hour drive home, it was 4 1/2.

Last three Octobers have been miserable cold, ugly… could hardly fish. I’m loving the weather this year, when it gets to upper 50’s water temp it should be game on
It was actually on October 20 last year. This is from weather.gov:
A very early season winter storm brought 2 to 6 inches of snow to parts of southeast Minnesota through north-central Wisconsin on October 20. The snow moved into the region by mid to late morning, quickly spreading east through the day before diminishing by early evening.
This being only my second year of Bass fishing the topwaters are killing it right now
2-4 FOW pulling it back out from the shore or the deeper 6-10 weed edge.
Choppo rules right now.
What else is good this time of year?
It gets BETTER than this?!

Yes, it gets better when temps are in the 50’s.
Jigs, jerkbaits, traps, crankbaits, chatterbaits, topwater, frogs, flukes, and spinnerbaits have all given me memorable trips in the Fall.

I agree. Looks like a weather change coming mid week with cooler weather behind that.
Got a 34 and 31 inch pike this weekend
I caught a 35 incher on Saturday evening too (plus about a dozen other smaller ones). Its the biggest pike I’ve caught this season.
It looks like I will be fishing out of the boat in November this year. According to weather.com, we’ve got a month from now until the weather turns against us.
Made it out today for a couple hours. Rainy and 44 degrees. Water temp 57. Caught a couple on a buzz bait. Couple on a Tx rig, couple on a Dt-10. Not a decent day, but at least I didn’t get skunked in the rain.

We were just talking on the other thread if the topwater bite was still on, and you answered that. Nice to see 57 degree temps, how far North were you?
not a bass guy but as i was trying to find me some crappies, the smallmouth were absolutely on fire for about a half hour just before dark the other day. no fancy rapalas just a plain hook minnow under a bobber. it was basically every cast until a nice one broke me off diving under my outboard. they sure don’t fight like a crappie!

i hope they are right. i won’t put the boat away until thanksgiving this year if all goes according to plan. this time of year is simply magical for many reasons. i was the only boat at my launch the other day and seen only a few boaters all day. someone could shut the wind machine off any day now tho!
