Please buy this reel and tell me how a spinning reel with no bail works!

    https://www.cabelas.com/product/VAN-STAAL-VSX-SPIN-REEL/1915822.uts?productVariantId=4040400&WT.tsrc=PPC&WT.mc_id=GoogleProductAds&WT.z_mc_id1=04048591&rid=20&ds_rl=1252079&gclid=Cj0KCQjwl7nYBRCwARIsAL7O7dEL_i1y8gp5mdB_eRzPiEsX_5bBrIjhlSh2Ujd5ZrVgALc2FAZBmKsaArrIEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

    The first review is classic:

“Very well made product and I’m sure I will enjoy it’s performance once I master a reel without a bail. No instructions came with it. I will keep practicing.”

When will I see James using one of these on his show? I’ve often felt that my $50-$125 spinning reels are what’s holding me back from being a truly elite fishermen whistling .

Is this like an upgraded spin cast from my youth, 50years ago?

Why would you spend 800 on a reel. I just can’t even imagine. I hate spending 150 on a reel.

I like the lead counterweight. High tech.

The one thing that caught my eye was 42 lb max drag.
Good thing we don’t have to worry about saltwater and how it makes the price of a reel jump.

So when you want to cast, you pull the line off the roller and then put it back on when you’re done casting? What if there’s line slack and the line pops off the roller?

Maybe it’s done differently in the surf, but that just seems like more work. At least I wouldn’t need to worry about my bails refusing to open like on some of my Presidents and Sedonas…

What if there’s line slack and the line pops off the roller?

If you are allowing slack line,,,,,,,, then you don’t deserve a reel of this caliber. devil

Tried looking where they were made but couldn’t find on site.

Some of the fam owns a metal fab shop and they thrive off small companies like this producing high quality products. Gives good jobs and economy to the area.

Like tuma said, saltwater is something we don’t have to deal with here.

VanStaal made (makes?) high dollar fly reels for the flats anglers.

Opinions on whether they were better reels or just expensive male jewelry varied widely. According to a couple of pretty experienced flats guys I know, it wasn’t that uncommon to see a sport come off the plane with a case of 2-3 of the fly reels back in the late 1990s or early 2000s.

the stubby bail helps the bail not slap shut mid cast. So you don’t pop your rig off into the sunset. If you were casting for distance, it could be an issue.
