Hi IDO’rs. Any recommendations on a walleye guide for lake Pepin area / pool 4. My wife and I are hoping to get a day or two of fishing in the end of next week on the 10th / 11th of October. Maybe even some crappies and perch at the end of the trip.

I have known people who have taken trips with all of the above guides. This time of year you will likely be at the head of the lake or up in the river versus on Lake Pepin. Pepin holds fish all year, but patterning them in mid-October there can be extremely difficult this time of year. There are some pretty good sticks who have been getting skunked in the past couple weeks on the lake.

Let us know who you get out with and share a report.

I have gone out with Denver each of the past two years. He is a blast to fish with. I know he and Marty spend a lot of time fishing/sharing notes together.

Really looking to hear personal experiences about the guide getting you on the Walleyes.

Marty Hahn will get you on the Walleye’s, Sauger and crappies. In the lake or up around the dam on pool 4. Have used him 4-5 times, not only will he get you on the fish he will take time to explain the different techniques and teach you. Super nice guy and well worth the money!

Someday I plan on booking a trip with Marty if for no other reason than I feel I owe him something for all the great up to date info he shares on the fishing report section of his website.

Denver is great. I went out with him on June first, when the river was still really high. He knew exactly where to go for bigger fish, then moved us to get on some take home fish. i was absolutely amazed at his knowledge of the river system.

So after a few changes on dates and Locations, we ended up on the St. Croix on Monday under the guidance of the Turk. We fished several spots and several different ways and found fish at all locations. Highlights were a couple big small mouth. Only one eye big enough to keep, but many 12-13 inch saugs and eyes. With the saugs being a little more aggressive the eyes. The high water made it nearly impossible to launch, but Turks figured it out. Bottom line is, it was a beautiful day and we all had a good time! Yes I will go out with the Turk again!

I have not personally fished with any of the aforementioned guides but I have spent more than my fair share of time fishing alongside of each of them. All four of them are very accomplished and knowledgeable guides and I have yet to see a trip where customers weren’t enjoying themselves. This might not be the exact answer you were searching for but I honestly don’t think you can go wrong with hiring any one of them.

Faith Guide Service is at least temporarily out of service.
Don’t ask ’cause I don’t know the facts.

All those guys are great guides but when I’ve sent people their way they are normally booked (well in advance). This is what happens when you are good at what you do.

There are three excellent, long time fishermen that just obtained their Coast Guard license. Since they are just getting their feet wet so to speak, there’s a much better chance of booking the date you’re looking for.

    Here’s their website

Pool 4 an More Walleye Guides

If you don’t tell them I you know me, you won’t have to pay extra. )
