I am still looking at used fish/ski boats and have found some with a 150 Optimax. Year of motor is 2005-2007. I kind of told myself I would never own another 2 stroke but I do not know much about the Optimax besides they have power!? Can anyone give me some pros/cons? I know they are not as quiet as a 4 stroke but when tubing/skiing 3/4 or full throttle with a 150 Yamaha is that motor really quieter than the 150 Optimax? Thanks in advance!

Great motor. The block is basically the same since the 70’s. Solid motor. I have a 2003. No problems. Regular maint. Plugs, filters, compression belt. 700 plus hours and no reason to believe it wont go another 700.

I think there was a recall on those… as long as it was serviced, they are good motors. 2strokes hate ethanol and are sensitive to the oil you use. If you aren’t planning on trolling with it you should be ok. Beware of a boat that has sat in storage for a long time… they have fuel issues
