In the north woods of Wisconsin near rhinelander for the summer and looking for my first Muskie. I have hit up the river and lake Alice multiple times and never seen a fish. I was wondering if anyone has any tips on any lakes I could hit up around here to try to catch my first Muskie. I’m not looking for a lake that I can catch a 50″ on every cast or someone’s secret honey hole just a lake that has decent number of muskies in it so I can catch one. Pm if you want. Thanks.

Cast below the dams of the Wiscondin river. You will hit paydirt if you kerp trying. Nighttime is a good option once you understand the flow.

    Kentuck

Sorry Randy… In the past maybe, but not hearing such good things about Kentuck anymore for an easy fish there…

Of these I would probably try the Moen Chain or Hancock… Personally have only fished Julia, but from reading the reports in that come from that area from tournies and such I would think these are probably your best shot. Others not quite in the area, but worthy of trying are the Eagle River or Three Lakes Chains, giving the nod to the ER Chain and perhaps the Sugar Camp Chain consisting of Dam, Sand and 3 other lakes.

But it is musky fishing and just like anything else in musky fishing, sometimes that first fish, doesn’t always come easy. Good luck, keep hucking and it will come…

If there’s a guide in the area, it’d be money well spent. If you can hook up with someone that has experience, that too will make a big difference. I chased on my own for 3 years (1-3x each year) before I got a friend on board. All I did was watch him fish while I began mimicking his technique(s). By the end of the day, I had my first follow. 3 days later, I had 3 follows and my first catch! Videos and articles can only do so much. Get with someone that has success/experience if you can. It makes a BIG difference!
