been searching for a frog rod. Only use its going to see. And I have a couple in mind but what do you guys use for a frog rod. My birthday is July 4th and its going to be a b day present for me. I currently use a 7ft heavy st croix. And I want to bump up to 7 4 or maybe up to 7 11 for control. I have a brand new tatula 8.1 waiting to meet its rod.
Do you guys have any recommendations or rods u love or hate ?

ALX Toadface – 7’2” but the tip is MH so you can “walk the dog” or work the frog… butt section is Heavy power for when you need to pull a hooked fish away from cover. I’ve had several other frog type of rods previously and find the Toadface the best hybrid/combo rod yet.

Not to be a kill-joy on a specific brand but I used to have St. Croix Heavy AvidX and then an LTB Heavy for frogging. They were unbelievable heavy rods (5.5 ounces), tip-weighted and fatiguing. I sold them to get the Toadface which is 4.2 ounces. Daiwa and other brands have rods too in that 4 1/2 oz range. I really think it’s worth doing the homework on rod weight if you want something 7’4” to 7’11” and I don’t think SC is a great option IMO.

I’ve used a 7 ft 2 in Shimano Clarus MHF for the last 5 years. It’s been a great rod and hasn’t failed once at getting fish out of the heaviest cover. 5+ lbers on it. And it’s not too expensive. I would like to try that Toadface though. Might be the next one I get.

Let us know how you like it. It also lists secondary uses for swim jigs and Chatterbaits… I’ve used it for those too. Great all-round rod, but best for froggin’
