I would like to thank the “sportsman” who was kind enough to bring us 4 bags of deer hides this morning and throw them in the snow pile along our building. IT IS A SHAME YOU DID NOT NOTICE THE CAMERA DIRECTLY ABOVE THE BLIND.

So, here is my offer. Come on back and grab these hides and dispose of them properly or I will be giving the information to both our local P.D. and conservation officer as well as sharing the images here on FB. The good thing is you are a local fellow and I am sure you will be recognized by many of your hunting friends!

PICK THEM UP AND NOTHING WILL BE DONE. Disregard this and I am sure you will at least have to deal with a littering and poaching investigation. Even if taken legally, I am sure you would prefer to not go through that.

We CLOSE AT 7 p.m. if you would prefer to pick them up when we are not here!

Think I would just call the DNR on him anyway. All he is going to do is dump them somewhere else, but look for a camera. He won’t learn anything from not getting some sort of penalty. My 2 cents….

    Ditto.
He is neither a good friend nor a good customer. If he was either he wouldn’t have done what he did.

Why would a guy take the time to throw hides in garbage bags, drive them all the way to your building, and drop them off other then, perhaps, on honest mistake of the process on hides for habitat? Perhaps he thought you participated as a hunting establishment and was trying to give to a good cause? Perhaps jumping the gun on conclusions? wave

Hides for habitat have wood boxes that the hides get put into.

Yes they do, but the 2x I’ve done it the guy at Fleet Farm before they opened said to just throw them next to the gate no problem, they would throw em in the box for me when they opened. waytogo

Don’t get me wrong the “slob” hunter certainly was mistaken, but cant imagine the hundreds of garbage cans he passed on the way that would’ve suited. As well as it being cold nowadays no big deal to throw it in with the regular garbage. Just sayin

As a non-hunter I have to ask……….How many Deer is he allowed to harvest? If 1 hide per bag could he legally have taken 4? Does the metal tag still have to be attached to transport a legal hide?

    Not accusing, just asking.

this was my first thought as well, and I am hoping it was an honest mistake.

I totally agree with the honest mistake possibility except the fact that it is 20 days after the last deer season and that he could have walked 25′ to our front door and asked. I fully assume he drove to our store with the intention to “Donate” the hides but upon arrival the very large, well marked Hides for Habitat box that sits on our sidewalk was not there so he decided at that time it was our responsibility to get rid of them for him.

I would equate this to your neighbor offering to haul your leaves to the dump on September 1st, all you have to do is put them in his trailer. Well, you did not make September 1st but since he offered to help you out you just dumped them in his driveway on Sept 22nd. After all, he used to take them so he should take them now, correct.

Somehow when a business is involved people tend to care less or abuse the system more.

And now you know the rest of the story.

The hides for habitat tidbit helps explain it.

But it doesn’t explain why he wouldn’t stop inside and ask if it was OK, unless it happened after hours.

Oh that’s not what I meant. I’m not excusing them. I was confused why someone would randomly do that.
