Hey to all, from ct. I use to have a Lowe 17 mod v boat and fishing from front was fine. I am looking into purchasing a rebel 1650 side console ( 2nd choice is Alumacraft 165 classic). Few questions. Pre 2019, rebel is rated for up to 90 hp. How does 60 perform on this boat. How is fishing off the bow on this boat. I know my mod v was different. Thanks for your help. Btw, any ideas why Lund lowers hp rating on new rebel? Has same specs.

I assume you’re talking about the brought back for 2019 1650 Rebel XL model, which is the version they offered pre-2016, without the center/forward rod locker called the XS?

I have the tiller version, which is rated at 60hp max, and while it’s no speed demon, it does the job. I’m confused why you’re concerned about the max hp rating, then asking about putting a 60 on a SS model.

Just curious why they dropped it used to be 90 for the same boat from what I hear the 75 was popular the 90 wasn’t i didn’t know if the 90 hp rating was causing problems with something.
I want the 75. Many dealers have leftovers with 60. How was fishing off the bow platform

    Joe,
Can’t help you with the bow fishing, mine’s a tiller, so my seat and where I fish is in the back.

    Happy shopping! HRG

I had a 1660 Pro V tiller which maxed out at 60 hp. It would do 36 mph with me and the dog in ideal conditions. I would highly recommend maxing it out. The performance with the 90 vs 60 or even the 75 will be huge.

Just remember you’ll not have as much room in a console as you have with a tiller

Do yourself a favor and find a left over XS. This is the model the new one replaced. The XS has more storage and better layout. Also get the 90, you won’t be sorry. Runs as cheap as the 60 and with 2 or 3 people you’ll have plenty of go. Never under power.
