It seems like the old site was easier and just more interesting stuff on it. It seems like lots of those that used to post are not here any more for some reason.
For me lots of the stuff here now is not of interest to me. Just my take on it.

Ahhh, the old days….. When In-Fisherman, Walleye Insider or Bass and Walleye boats magazines showed up in the mail. I remember sitting down and reading these cover to cover the day they arrived.

Now those are the old days I really miss!

I always enjoyed the quick fishing reports from various guides. A short paragraph or two with a few pictures. These allowed us to get away from the daily work grind and see how people were doing.

It seems to me we still have a considerable amount of post, but request for help on various items seems to dominate, nothing wrong with that, but seems to be more of them.

I have also noticed that acceptance of other peoples opinions has declined considerably. We have several members that are not very tolerant of the other side of many items, and are downright rude many times.

Getting too long now! I still enjoy the site, but the content is definitely shifting from just a few years ago when I joined.

well put James…. never thought of it that way waytogo looking back, even in 10 years, technology has made leaps… AGAIN !

When I think back to how we used to share info and the hurdles we had to jump through to do something as simple as get a photo online… all I can do is shake my head. When we started FTR a cell phone was a phone. They didn’t have cameras. I still took photos with a film camera and if the photos were something that I wanted to get online quickly I took the film to a 1 Hour photo lab. then ran them home, scanned them, resized them in Photoshop and posted them. I don’t miss that process one bit.

As for changes in posting behavior, people didn’t change because the site changed. The site changed because the people that use it did. And 10 years from now we’ll look back at the browsing trends of 2015 and marvel at how different things are.

Field reporting has its pro’s and cons. I think hunting works out better than fishing. Not many people like to see the same guides post their success day after day on the same water.

I don’t think IDO now or ever has been full of people representing this boot or that scope and 30 other manufacturers of widgets….. I tend to lean more to James’ take on the change.

Fortunately, most of the guides were very good about sharing anything you wanted to know – less their waypoints.

I agree very much with Jame’s explanation in the change. The majority of successful companies are dramaticly changing their advertising strategies to match that. Old school thinking will make companies extinct.

There has always been site sponsors and individuals with a few sponsors that are the same as; or complete opposite of IDO’s. The great thing amongst the majority has been the exposure to multiple solutions. I give KUDOS to James in the way he has handled this over the years. That in itself has made IDO unique that the bias is set aside to show people a vast amount of ways and means of getting a job done – regardless of manufacture. I hope to see that philosophy continue.

I really like this site. I am active on 4-5 web fourms. 2 of them fishing related and 3 of them car related. This site is different than any of the others that I am on in terms of layout and format.

What is nice about IDO vs others is that the mobile browsing is much easier and looks very similar to the web browsing. I don’t understand why it takes so long for the post count to update but that’s really not a big deal.

I am somewhat new here and only know this version of IDO. I don’t understand why members would leave after the site updates? Seems like an odd reason to leave an online community to me

The truth is very few did. But if you’re a long-term member and you notice contributors are no longer participating the easy thing to point to is a format change.

Hey Dutchy how’s it going today? Remember like 3 or 4 years ago when you posted a Lindsay Lohan rant? That was hilarious on all things a fishing site, and I think you should do more like that. That was awesome! I bet it might even get old members posting again!
