Long Rods for Crappie

I’m a sucker for buying gear that the fishing shows promote. A couple of weeks ago Angling Edge did a crappie show and they were using 10′ rods. I stopped at Gander the other day and they sell a number of different brands of long 8′-12′ crappie rods. B’n’M and other brands. Any opinions on these long rods? One of the lakes I fish has a lot of tree/laydowns in the water. I was thinking a long rod would be handy for dropping a jig in there.

I use two of the Gander Crappie rods… I think 12′, and like them. As much for drifting. Seen the set ups put to good use down on Kentucky Lake, where they drift over brush. Having the rods out from the boat a little further seems to work better, and the longer rods help not only see the bites, but also offer a little better action for the fish setting the hooks themselves. Dipping in trees is one other fun use as you mentioned. You are not casting, so some high quality isn’t needed.
