This is for the guys fishing with the classic long rods for panfish.
If you could design your own long rod, what would you do?
    How long?
    Glass or graphite?
Action, extra fast, fast, moderate? tight or loss tip action.
Power extreme ultra light, ultra light?
    Line through?
    Handle, how long, how wide?
Spring spring bobber, wire spring bobber?
    Reel?
Anything you can think of that I am missing?

I am looking at building long rods but, I have a very limited experience fishing with that set-up.

This is what I am thinking,
    50″-60″
    graphite, tight tip
    moderate, ultra light
    yes line through
7″ handle, approx 1″ diameter, I have big hands.
    titanium wire spring bobber
incorporating a palming type reel at the end
    Whole set-up about 3oz.-4oz.

    What do you guys think?
    Appreciate the info.

    Thanks, Doug

Depends on what your using for lures. I am a perch fisherman and use larger baits and like the stiffer rods.

I will say the frabill 48″ jiggler light is my favorite, however the spring bobber is a pain to thread and the reels suck. You have to disassemble them if line gets wrapped up in them and there are lots of little parts. Line thru is the way to go for sure. The longer rods can be a pain to transport with all your if your not careful.

Ideally they would use the palm rod type indicators sized for your lure weight (short ones). I prefer the faster/stiffer rods for better hooks sets. Also would like to see a better reel type setup, although I like palming the small frabill reels. Haven’t tried the pulsator or CNY long rods yet.

    Solid carbon or glass.
Very good blanks, have built using both.
    Need tubular blanks.
