Long johns

I need a new pair of long john pants. I have had a bunch of different pairs of them and the issue I have is the same with every pair. They slide down my back side and it’s extremely irritating! As a typical heavy set man I have very little back side to hold them up, no bubble butt so to speak. I need a pair that won’t slide down every time I bend over. Warmth hasn’t been an issue with any of them, just can’t get them to stay up. Anyone recommend a good pair?

    Suspenders. lol

Have you tried tucking a longer t-shirt in and under after putting the long johns on? The shirt being between your underwear and the lj.

I’m slim with no a$$ and have the same issues. Nothing stays up. I bought a long top and tuck it in to my long John’s and then try to hike the waiste line above my pants, cinche my belt and I’ve had luck. With out the shirt tucked way in then I’m always digging for them. Me dad always wore suspenders to his long John’s. I couldn’t do it. But it worked for him

Under Armour compression fit. They make 3 levels of warmth.

x2 I got the 3.0’s as a gift and if they ever wear out, I’ll be buying a new set asap.

I think Simms makes a onesie base layer that would solve that problem. I’m not sure what “level” of warmth it is as I’ve never seen one in person, but it’s for cold weather wader fishing.

The old lady has had success with a once piece made by Airblaster. They call it a “ninja Suit” I’ve been waiting for the mens merino wool one to go on sale to try myself.

Yep on the under armour compression pants. They are awesome, stay on, and you can tuck other layers into them.

And, I don’t believe we call them long johns anymore. They are called “base layers” so the the apparel companies can charge 10x more. whistling

I run the under armor 3.0 pants as well, never been cold in them, and I would assume they would stay up for someone that doesn’t have a bubble butt as they seem rather grippy (my @$$ could keep pants 4 sizes too big up).

Union Suit (one piece) I use them for base layer and then depending on conditions I put others on top. Works every time.

The Simms one pc fleece for under waders is an awesome base layer and lasts a long time- going on over 10 years with one. Sitka base layer tops (at least my mid does) have extra length to the back side to stay tucked in. Of course neither are cheap.

I do have a union suit, but being phat and tall they are restrictive, but they do keep the lower back warm.

I dumped long johns 30 years ago. I use insulated pants or flannel lined pants. With a belt!

X2 on the union suit, however I bought mine at Kaplan Bros on lake street about a hundred years ago. It’s showing its age as my wife reminds me every time I put it on, so the UA compression could be right around the corner.

I’ve been using Under Armour for several years now. They should stay up and they are very warm. My only complaint is they are not comfortable for me. At the end of the day, I can wait to get them off. They are very tight (part of the reason they keep you so warm). They wick the sweat away pretty good too. They are expensive but worth it.

If you can handle the price and stomach the inevitable crap you’ll get from your buddies, check out Smartwool baselayers. I got a pair two years ago and my UA pair has not been worn since. In my experience they are warmer and significantly more comfortable, wick sweat, don’t fall down at the waist, the whole works.

I’m so cheap I buy army surplus ECWCS long underwear for less than 1/4 the cost of a lot of the high tech stuff. I also cant tell the difference in warmth from my Cabelas brand stuff, which was lots more $$.
