For those of you that hunt in northern Wisconsin and Minnesota, I want your input regarding the timing of the lockdown period in November.
I had great cruising and responding to calls the first week of November last fall. I ended up killing a buck at 12:45 November 7th after a calling sequence. From November 8th-13th, my cameras and sightings produced very minimal buck activity on 2 different properties. On November 14th, the cruising activity significantly increased.
The “typical” lull in November is the 14-20, but I’m wondering if this is slightly earlier in northern regions of the two states. Maybe it’s my area? What is your experience?
I typically take the first full week of November off, but am rethinking my strategy.

Last year in our area, north central MN, it was very strange. Very very little dear movement the first week of rifle opener. It was actually the first year in the last 10 yrs I never saw a buck. It wasn’t until our third weekend I saw some does moving but still no bucks. I still don’t know if the rut happened early or really late last fall…
