HEE HEE ok as I mentioned in another post I lost many cranks to the heat went to get just a few.
WHOA sticker shock really $10 bucks for a crank ouch I thought maybe there would be a booth for getting quick easy credit with 20% annual interest flame

OK kidding aside I really like the Rapala Shallow shad rap jointed and regular glass shad raps they are plastic and they really catch the fish for me I only use bait casters for cranks so I like something with some weight.

Anyone else have some suggestions? I don’t crank a lot but need a few really want to get the ones that work not the ones that just sit there never used.

Buy lipless cranks such as the Rattle Traps. You can cover the whole water column with the speed of your retrieve. 8″ wire leader secured with a Palomar knot and you are ready to go. Black / chrome & blue / chrome would be good starters.

IMHO one does not need to spend 10 dollars for a crankbait.
Check out the Berkely Flicker Shads $3.50 each at Fleet Farm.

It’s a sickness, with little cure, get into musky or salmon or Laker fishing. Dang glad I bought my Musky baits 30 to 40 years ago.

The jointed flicker shads have been my absolute best River walleye producer for 3 seasons running now.

If you can find the 3-packs they are often an even better deal.

I would agree that flicker shads are a great bait for the money. Use them almost exclusively trolling on the river but you get what you pay for. Seems like about 1 in every 6 is so out of tune out of the box you gotta just pitch them.

If I was starting over I’d get a handful of 5,6,7 flickers shads in various colors. My other go to are rapala jointed shad raps. They always run true and for casting you can launch them a mile. I’d get a handful of the same. Work great for a baitcaster.

If you want to get crazy, a few #12 husky jerks.

I also like to have some of the rattle trap style baits….pretty versatile bait for multi species.

It is a sick addiction though.

Hey Mrpike1973 you might be able to file an insurance claim on your ruined lures and plastics. I have a specific add on for fishing tackle with my boat insurance policy that covers damage or theft to fishing gear. Worth looking into.

Never caught a thing on a flicker shad. Have about 20 of em though. I do well on husky jerks or if fishing deep tail dancers. Went nuts a few years back and purchased all my tackle. I won’t need any new cranks for years

That’s odd. Flicker Shads are one of the best producers where ever I fish.

Go to Amazon. I think i got 12 for around $15. And yes they caught me fish. Who TF spends $10 for a crankbait? Maybe the musky guys? X15 on flicker shads and minnows.

$10 bucks is what I saw on a few select ones not saying I bought them just surprised how much a few were. The Flicker shad 7 do they cast OK with a bait caster. I had a few and never could get them to track true and the paint falls off of them bad. They sure balloon up in the heat crazy My fault though.

Anyone who wants a rapala crank, unfortunately. And HA! Muskie guys spend 10 on a crank?? Lmao try 25+ nowadays. Absolutely sickening.

And x100 on flicker shads- they are great. Berkley makes great cheaper alternative lures to rapala etc.. I like their choppo also, instead of the whopper plopper. Less money and awesome bait

I don’t have musky in my area but if I had to spend $25, I’m pretty sure I would find another species to target. Pretty cool fish and hopefully I catch one someday.
Here on P4, the flicker shads and minnows are super popular. The deep down bandits are good producers I hear and those go for $8 or so. I am sure the shad raps and other raps work good too, I just don’t use them myself. Only pulled on leadcore for walleye for me.

I have seen some at Thorne Brothers in Blaine for $75. Kinda ridiculous but people must buy them otherwise they wouldn’t be selling them.

I am one that refuses to buy Rapala any more, I stocked up on Flicker Shads when they first came out at a $1.50 a piece and on sale for .99 cents have around 120 of them. I find my self buying more and more cranks from Aliexpress. There colors can be funky but some not, I am impressed with the quality of the higher priced $3 and up. I buy all my Crappie crankbaits from here, just be sure you are not in a hurry to get them.

RIP Storm smash shad, that was a decent crank that didn’t break the bank. You can still find job lots on feebay for a good price.Flicker shads are better now, they were meh when they first came out and many did not track right.
The chinese body cranks that Randy W painted seem durable and survived a few weed-slapping episodes.

Only way rapala makes the product better if they see sales being affected from the quality.
I know I’m not gonna stop buying less raps, plain and simple, they work how I need them to.

Don’t walk down the Rapala aisle, that’s the easiest way to avoid paying $10/per rotflol . Sometimes at the end of the summer you can find them at a slight discount. Flicker Shads and Flicker Minnows have a growing presence in my tackle box.

I have slowly been buying more berkley but problem is I usually buy some Raps at the same time. Raps just have the variety and styles that just seem to work. Granted, I haven’t given them there fair share yet. Love me some of those scatter raps.
