Load Range E Tires on a 1/2 Ton?

I’m curious if there are any drawbacks to doing this.

I just foud out they quit making the tire I wanted in a C load range and now I have to choose between the light truck tire and load E.

The reason for the higher load range is because I haul a pickup camper on my F150 and really need the extra psi in the tire to maintain good control while on the highway. The actual load range is not a factor.

Ride quality may suffer a little. Possible decrease in fuel economy. Other than than should be fine.

That was my main concern. Anyone have first hand experience?

It’s not that bad at all. I put 10-ply (load range E) on all of my 1/2 tons.

    Good to know.

, what’s the reason you put them on your 1/2 tons?

Now I’m debating if it’s even necessary.

I like the heavier construction. I do a lot of hunting, driving crappy roads, driving through corn stalks, ect. Flat tires are no fun.

I have ran E for 6 years on my F150. Ride is a bit rougher but you don’t have to run the 60psi or so they say to. I run 40-45psi. I get pretty good milage out of the tires too over 80,000 miles on my last set.

I have had two sets on my half ton now and can’t say there was much of a difference in ride. It handles a load better and a lot less flats at work and in the woods.

Run e on all 1/2 ton work trucks you do not get the sway when passing a semi or taking a corner fast

I appreciate all the replies. I’m gonna get them then. Looks like they even have a slightly deeper tread than the lighter tire.
