Nice and cool tonight. Sitting over a standing bean plot with a good wind in my face
Heard a grunt about an hour ago, so I grunted back. Shortly thereafter, a 125-130″ 8 comes walking and grunting into 15 yards but never presented a shot. I think it is the one in the picture. Nice deer for sure, but I’m a little relieved that he didn’t offer a shot. Made my decision for me!
Having temps yesterday approaching 70 degrees didn’t seem to slow the deer down at all. Saw 9 in my all day excursion.
Back at it today with a temp in the valley of 30 right now! Time to get it done!
Deer are moving like crazy here in Central Wisconsin. Pre-Rut has the bucks chasing. Multiple bucks nose to the ground running does. Pat had a chance at a nice 8, but was self filming and couldn’t quite make it happen. Not to mention he had an epic day, tons of bucks right under his stand. Bucks dogging at noon, awesome stuff! You’ll definitely want to check out the next Harvest Chronicles. He also had a number of 10 pointers which we are trying to let grow for a few years.
We opted to stay another day and try to get it done! What a great time to be in the tree!
Tonight was slow for me, not a single deer! Pat had a number of does, and a tiny buck running a few of them around. Can’t wait for the big boys to really get moving!
Last night was the most action I had in the tree this season so far. With a fresh picked bean field and a cold front moving in I was hopeful that deer would be on the move last night and boy was I right! Barely got in my stand and set up and I had a basket rack buck come behind my stand on a trail just inside the woods, this stand is on a field edge of a bean field. He came out into the field down wind of my stand and spooked after catching my wind. Shortly after that a doe and two fawns came out into the field and hung out for quite a while. On the other end of the field another doe came out and shortly after that a two year old buck came out and started chasing her my way but they both ducked into the woods about half way across the field. Not too long after that two young bucks came out into the field in the same spot from where the buck and doe ducked into the woods. By this time it was dark and time to climb down out of the stand. Things are started to heat up in the deer woods can not wait to get back out there tonight!
Sat in the stand tonight where I took my 2007 buck for the wall.
(Not sure why those fishing pics show up in that report)

It was windy that night just like tonight was, I did not see any shooters tonight but I did have quite a bit of action again tonight. Had another basket rack buck cruising looking for a hot doe and as he was starting to leave I grunted at him just to mess with him and see what kind of reaction I could get out of him, as soon as I grunted at him I spooked a smaller spike buck that was right under my tree that I had not noticed, where in the heck did he come from? LOL! The spike took off but the basket rack buck came back to see where the grunting was coming from. He would look around for a bit and then start to leave and then I would grunt at him again and he would come back looking for the other buck he thought was there. After the basket rack buck left I had a button buck show up and walk right under my ladder stand, he started licking my ladder then milled around for a bit, he went to the bottom of the ravine and got a drink of water then ended up coming back and bedded down right under my tree! He stayed there till dark, I finally had to start dropping twigs on him to get him to leave, never picked up my bow tonight but all in all it was very entertaining to say the least.
Lots of movement this morning. All does, fawns & small bucks. I can hear and catch glimpses of 2 young bucks sparring 80 yds to my west. Maybe they will bring something in bigger to investigate.
Fairly eventful morning. Grunted in a couple little 8s and rattled in a small 6. Of course the big 10 skirted me at 100. Awesome morning to be up in a tree.
Pretty slow night. For how they were moving this morning the action hit the skids. It’s pretty dang windy and may have stifled the action thus far.
9 days at the farm, lots of great encounters. Not enough signal to post, but full story tomorrow front a land line. I am out tonight at home where MRI tells me there is a big boy
Good morning so far. Couple does one and small 8. As you can see by the shakey picture, I may have been a little excited. I was expecting ol’ Mossy horns not a 14″ 8.
First sit of the season in my home county. Small woodlot surrounded by houses but it butts up to a state park. On nice days I can see kids playing on their swingset.

Ended the night with a 6 pointer at 10 yards and a small 8 at 2 yards. I also got to listen to a neighbor work on his new garage all evening (most of my deer come from that direction). The good news is he was able to work through the rain that I thought would force him to quit.

Got a glimpse of a shooter last night. Came back to same stand this morning. 3 bucks so far. No big guys.
Buck #4
Small 8pt. Couldn’t have given me a better shot.
Well technically live from the ground but I put eyes on a stud driving through the field this a.m. and had a pretty good 4×3 muley at 30 but decided to pass in hopes of greener pastures. Just driving to a new area. Where there was a group of does there was a buck close by.
A couple more small muley bucks chasing a doe to round off the morning. Now I’m concentrating on staying on my feet with this wind!
After the last 2 days of going deerless, I was questioning my sanity. All day sits are taking their toll on me. This morning, I finally had a small buck dogging some does around me at first light. Not much for success but it sure was a welome sight. Just the boost I needed to make it through the day.
The morning is getting better. Just had a half rack 8 push a doe by.
Just made it to Nodak and going to try and get it done on some public land along the river. So far so good. Seeing a lot of little bucks on the hoof this morning. Rifle opens at noon so well see how that pans out!
One little buck cruized by me right at first light. Still have yet to have a shot at a 3 1/2 yo +.
