Lithium Cranking or Dual Purpose Batteries

Lithium seems like a no brainer for most trolling motor applications outside of the added up front cost. Does anyone have firsthand experience with a lithium cranking battery or dual purpose battery for cranking/house use? Newer models have CCAs >1,000 which should turn over just about any 4-stroke out there and have amp hour ratings that could power large screens and live imaging for an extended time period. Curious on people’s experience with this. Any info on good or bad brands would be appreciated as well!

If you read the owners manual for Mercury Motors and I believe Yamaha, it technically voids the warranty on the motors.

Now are there people doing it? YEP! But be careful is all I would say. I was going to make the switch but was told by the dealer and even Amped Outdoors not to.

Some Lithium Manufactures say they are Motor friendly or whatever the issue is, but to me it’s not worth risking my warranty especially with a brand new boat coming.

I run an Odyssey Group 31 for my starting battery with the Power Pole Charge charger and as much electronics and other stuff (which I doubt most even come close to running) I have NEVER had a problem with juice. I may run dual AGM’s this season just because I am running Livescope and Active Target, 4 12’s, Trim Tabs, Jack Plate, iTroll, Accessories, phones, Power Pole pump JUUUUUUUST to be safe even thought Its basically the same as my last boat.

But overall Amped Outdoors 100AH lithium’s for my trolling motor, and Odyssey 31’s for my starting battery and power pole Charge charger, I think is probably the ultimate system. When outboards remove the warranty void terminology with lithium’s, then I will switch.

Thanks for the input. I really like Amped Outdoors lithium batteries for other applications and saw the statement on their website that discouraged lithium for cranking batteries. If going to a 5-battery setup, would it make the most sense to go with 3 lithiums for the 36V trolling motor, an AGM cranking battery for the motor, and then another lithium for all electronics? Just keep the electronics completely separate on another lithium (4 12″ graphs and Livescope)?
