I hear everyone saying how light these are, the lithium batteries claim to be 7lbs while the lead acid claim to be 5lbs. Which is true?

Don’t know where you’re seeing that but lithium is much lighter. Maybe shipping weights that probably aren’t right? Just go look at the manufacturer websites. An 8ah Amped battery says it’s 1lb 11oz while a Mighty Max 7ah says 4.5lbs. the other big difference is lithium actually works until almost completely discharged while a lead acid drops voltage quickly and you can’t use all the listed capacity.

^^^ He is absolutely right. It is almost insane the weight difference and when you get to 100AH and its only around 26lbs vs Lead Acid at around 65-75lbs.

Thanks, I will research again. Does anyone charge their lithium with the lead acid chargers?

Mine came with a new charger for the lithium, but I hear some can charge with the lead acid, it just takes longer. I would just get a new charger if it was me.

I still have 2x 200ah AGMs in my cabin that were for solar because they weigh 127lbs each and I haven’t felt like throwing my back out yet to move them again lol Replaced with one 200ah lithium that weighs 51 lbs and feels like a toy. I have more usable power now, before voltage drop is too much for inverter, at 20% of the weight. It is insane how much better they are!

Everyone just says “lithium” but there are different types. LiFePo4 (lithium iron phosphate) are the relatively cheaper ones and charge at around 14.4v which is the same as lead-acid. NMC (nickel manganese cobalt or something like that) need a special 16.8v charger made for that battery type. NMC is even lighter than LiFePo4 but more expensive.

You can use a regular charger for LiFePO4, but you should still get a new one probably. Most cheap SLA chargers are 1a and just a dumb constant voltage. You can get a LiFePO4 charger for like $20 that will charge it much faster and won’t hold that constant voltage unnecessarily once it’s full.

No It will not fully charge and has no control over the BMS (Battery Management System) If the battery dose not come with one, buy a charger that has a Lithium Ion setting.

Correct. Flasher sized Amped come with a charger.

I weighed both my new lithium and the lead battery it was replacing. The lead battery was a hair over 5 lbs and the lithium was roughly 2.5.
