Until more information is available, my advice is that it depends on which lithium you are using. The V410 is a lead acid battery charger which was not designed specifically for lithium batteries. Apparently, the circuitry in the Vexilar lithium is designed to be compatible with the v410. I cannot say how it works with the circuitry on other lithium batteries, but I do not plan to use the v410 on any lithium other than the Vexilar battery until more information is available.
I tried to embed a link to a Vexilar youtube video that discusses some of this.
One thing I note from the video is that the representative for Vexilar makes it very clear not to leave the v410 plugged into the lithium battery long term.
I suggest finding a charger that shuts off automatically when charging lithium.
I saw that video as well. Thanks for the response. I’ll make sure to get the proper charger. Its an amped lithium I purchased.
I have the amped 12ah and 18ah. I only use their lithium chargers.
Their 3A charger showed up yesterday with both the Garmin plug and alligator clip connectors.
Seems well built and actually more solid than their 4A chargers I’ve had before.
I really like the ability to swap out different connectors.
For the price point I don’t think it can be beat.
Now i want to get the shut off one-guy told me a regular charger will not get it to 100%
I run amped battery, Thorne bros said vex charger would work but very slow. I bought the amp charger, think it was $15
I have a Vexilar lithium battery and was able to charge it with the battery “naked” using the V-410 charger. I couldn’t get the battery to charge hooked up in a Fish Scout pack, which I primarily bought it for. The battery will now be used to power lights in my new Kenai flip over.
So I did a quasi experiment.
Ran my Humminbird on simulator for around an hour checking out the lake map of the lake behind my house.
I have a 12ah Amped in the Humminbird.
I left the unit on and hooked the stock Humminbird charger up to it. Battery was sitting at 13.5v on the display.
It slowly, and I mean slowly, charged it up to 14.5v and stopped charging. By stopped charging, I mean the voltage stopped increasing on the battery and not the light turning green on the charger.
I take it that was the battery management system of the battery that stopped the charging.
I unhooked the Hummingbird charger and hooked up the lithium charger. Charger light went green, indicating battery fully charged.
So I figure it is possible to fully charge a lithium with a 1A SLA charger. You have to go by battery voltage though. Which you should already have setup anyways on your Humminbird and the Garmin shows voltage from the factory.
Next question is how fast do you want your battery charged.
Here are the different specs between my Old Amped lithium charger and Humminbird charger. Panoptix charger specs identical to Humminbird.
