My marcum locator battery is toast so I need a new one. Thinking of a lithium battery, are the worth it?

Do lithium batteries need there own special/ separate charger??

I’ve read James post/ announcement and seen he is involved in Norsk batteries. Where can I find them?? I don’t buy online!

I have a amped outdoors and like it. And yes you will need a lithium charger for it. Scheels sells the amped brand

I would follow the manufacters recommendation for chargers and charging…
I purchsed my NORSK at the local farm anf fleet store where the employyess wear red shirts,,,
I switched to lithium when the Dakota Batteries came out, there was a group buy here at IDO in-which I participated
Definately worth it, especially with the NORSK, they are even lighter in weight than the Dakota…

Will check Scheels. Anyone know where I could find the Norsk batteries?? Like in a real store?

I run an older Norsk, I believe their very first generation. It is incredibly light and powers my FL-20 very well. I do run the charger from Norsk for it. This is my all time favorite setup and I would be devasted if anything ever happened to it.

I also just this year put a 15Ah Norsk on my Helix 7. Runs good, Helix doesn’t like lithium batteries when it comes to % remaining so it always says either 100% or 0%. It ran for 3 days about 10 hrs per day on red and was still running when we packed up to leave. I always turn my screen brightness down when inside or at night, which helps with anything running on a battery.

I did not buy another charger- but Norsk confirmed with me over the phone that a standard vexilar charger will work, it just charges really slow. I confirmed this as it took about 15 hours to charge fully. No problem from my perspective.

yes, they are worth the spend. If you are running just a standard marcum and want lightweight, the 7.5Ah Norsk is awesome. If you think you’ll need 72+ hours of runtime without charging, then grab the 15Ah, but it is heavier than the 7.5

Wouldn’t buy anything from Glens army navy in Grand Rapids. Purchased an item and week later was 140 less and wouldn’t deal with me. Got a refund instead and purchased at Scheels.

I have three brute 10amp hour lithium batteries from LxM, couldn’t be happier with them. They are the only ones I’ve tried, and they come with a charger. I can’t speak bad of any of the other brand’s having not tried them.

Glen, look up the posts on lithium ion and lifepo4 before you choose, there are big differences.

The lithium batteries are great. Just don’t leave it hooked up to your Vexilar all summer long. I must have a slow drain on my son’s unit and the battery was toast this fall. The battery drained so far that it would no longer take a charge. It was a Marcum and not even a year old. My other one is an Amped and I have had no problems with that one.

Marine General in Duluth had a 10AH lithium Marcum Brute for $69.99 a few weeks ago. I got Cabela’s to price match and saved another 5% because I’m a Club Member. It was the last one on their shelf that day. Score!

Definitely worth it for run time and weight. I wanted a backup to get through a long weekend on the ice for my LX6.

I have all three mentioned and I like the Norsk the best because of built-in port’s. Oh I don’t have a vexilar brand. I have no issue with any.

Amped Outdoors for me has been great this year. Crazy on how light they are and how long they last.

I sell amped batteries in canada. Amped and dakota both use virgin cells. The cheaper marcum batteries used recycled lithium cells from medical equipment. That’s why some work and some don’t. I have had the odd amped go bad, but not many. There’s a reason Scheels blew out the 10ah marcums for 50 bucks.

The Marcum Brute battery I bought last year as that big store in Eden Prairie has worked well for me. Came with a charger. Store had a ton of them and were dealing them off pretty cheap.

I just upgraded my Vex to a Vex lithium. Reeds had a good sale on battery & charger. I think I purchased the last one unless they have more coming in.

The light weight and longer run times are really nice. Worth the added cost is something each of us can decide for ourselves.

I like the idea of disconnecting them after season end. Thanks!

My old Hummingbird portable … use on small boats, etc… I take the battery out … didn’t think about it for the winter units.

I store most of my electronics and batteries in the basement when not in use. Summer heat can’t be a friend. Same with my boat batteries in the winter … in the basement they go fully charged. Should just heat the garage. grin

Cold temps are best for battery storage.

Storing batteries fully charged is key.

Cool temps are great for storing batteries … thus the basement.

Extreme cold -10 or so is often not good for Li batteries or marine batteries. Large swings in temperature can also be detrimental.

I lost a pair of 1 year old marine batteries when I stored my boat in my parents garage (North Dakota) and forgot to pull the full charged batteries.

Maybe some of these locator Li batteries are designed to be extreme cold temperature tolerant. Don’t know.

Follow these guidelines if you believe them … your call, your money.

    Li Ion Batteries
Recommended storage temperatures range from 32℉ (0℃) to 104℉ (40℃). Ideal storage temperature is 50℉.

Meanwhile, safe charging temperatures are similar but slightly different, ranging from 32℉ (0℃) to 113℉ (45℃).

While those are safe ambient air temperatures, the internal temperature of a lithium-ion battery is safe at ranges from -4℉ (-20℃) to 140℉ (60℃).
