Linking gen2 push button with ethernet cords

I recently linked my HDS 7 gen2 and HDS 8 gen2 via ethernet cords through the structure scan box. Everything seems to be working well, except for the sonar on the HDS 7. I have all the main cords connected to the 8 (transducer, ethernet, power, & structure scan) and the ethernet and power hooked up to the 7. The sonar works great on the 8, and on the 7 the screen is just scattered and it jumps from 80 feet to 40 feet to 15 feet when I am sitting in about 8 feet of water. Is there a setting that I need to be adjusting on the 7 or 8 to get a clear reading on the 7?

Hmm, that is strange. Try connecting the Ethernet cords right to the head units and see what happens. That is how I have mine connected and I don’t have that issue at all.
The one thing I have noticed though is that once you network the two units you will likely have to play with the settings to make sure the “network sonar” setting is how you want it. By default I believe it flips them both to “On” and then one of the units becomes the slave to the other. I turn off the network sonar on mine. I mainly just wanted the Ethernet for the waypoint sharing nothing else.

I had to go in and change a few settings to get the water temperature setting to work and to get the GPS working on the 7. That is working flawlessly, along with sharing waypoints.
