How concerned should one be about line twist when jigging j raps and larger spoons (1/8 oz and up). Does depth play into the equation? Still kinda up in the air about the cost of spro’s and shampo’s bb swivels.

Either spend the money on line and replace more often or a quality swivel.
The only spinning reels I use are sedonas and siennas. The line I have spooled on them hasn’t even seen water yet.
The thing with a spoon is that while jigging, there will be moments where there is pull pressure on the line to no pull pressure on the line. With the cheaper power/hyper (barrel/crane) swivels, they will work when there is no pull on the line.
Ball bearing swivels shines best for functions where there is a constant pull pressure on it. Examples like spinnerbaits. This allows the blade to spin in a much more freedom of movement. In effect it does not torque the spinnerbait to turn sideways/angled.
When it comes to cranking spoons at constant pressure, it depends on the effect one is after. A ball bearing swivels will allow the spoon to make a much tighter wobble. While a direct line tie might force the spoon to kick out more, a wider wobble. The effect depends on the spoon type.
You need to make sure you buy the right line. That is number one is to start with good line. If you have good line that will solve more than half the problem.
