I picked up a TUCR fusion for my dedicated perch/walleye rod. I really want to put an ice braid on this, but not if it’s going to ice up pretty bad. I fish outside about 50% of the time. Any recommendations? Thank you!

I picked up a couple of new Walleye rods, and had the same question. I read a lot of articles, and for me, fishing mostly in a shack or portable with heat, not much outside in the elements. I decided to go with the same type setup I use with my rigging rods in the summer. Braid on the spool with Fluorocarbon leaders.

I chose Suffix 832 Ice Braid on the spools in 8 lb. And I am trying Trilene 100% Flouro in 4 lb. for my leaders. First trip out this week, so I will see how it goes.

I ran the Suffix ice braid yesterday and although it was above freezing I like it. I will say that PLine Fluoro is good line as well and I use it a lot. I would NOT buy the PLine Ice Fluoro. Been told by to many people that its the same stuff as the regular PLine Fluoro. They get you with the small spools and higher price.

Suffix Ice Magic Mono to a Fluoro leader is what I have been using also. But you won’t find me running to much braid when its cold out. I have tried them all and they all freeze up.

For perch I really like a 4# Suffix Ice Magic or something similar to a 4# fluoro leader. For Walleye (limited experience) I generally just bump up to 6 or 8# for main line and leader.
