If it isn’t too cold I have been running suffix 832 braid. That doesn’t ice up too bad.

I use Fireline crystal 4 & 6lb with no issues all winter long on pool 4

With braid/super lines and dealing with water freezes, there are some ways to reduce it. First I use the thinnest lightest line I can. Be it like 1-2# Fireline or a 3-5# braid line.

Second, water repellent treatment or ice deterrent treatment. Be it silicone or wax on the line or line guides on your rod.

I do find that I don’t like the water bubbles trapped on the line and the flasher read out on that. Hence I personally haven’t bothered to line treatment so far as ice fishing goes. I also tend to get lazy and just stay inside my heated shelter.

Over the years I have thought I have landed more fish using
mono over the time I gave braid an honest try.
6 pound mono is strong enough. In Feb 6# is preferred as the
water is the cleanest of the year. Vert jigging, dragging up
and down. As the water dirties up in March 8# will take more
abuse, but 6 still does the job.
Mid to late March, pitching shoreline kicks in, and either an 8#
mono, or a braid with 8# leader.

    Also, Welcome to IDO

    Good luck, Jack

P-line has been great for my ice fishing and now I am trying it open water. The flourocarbon coating helps it repel water and the mono makes it not be as coily as the pure fluorocarbon.

thanks folks of all the replies. Looks like everybody has their own preference. I will have to give a couple a shot and see what happens.
    Thanks
