I am looking for a good all around trolling reel with line counters – actually two. I troll for big lakers on big water and this is the main use but I would use them for other trolling options also. Does anyone recommend a reel that wont break the bank, throw in some rod options also if you have the information
    Thanks! !

I have diawa sealines, okuma convectors, and okuma coldwaters. I like the coldwaters the best.

I’m trolling for walleye’s and salmon, and my okuma convectors have yet to let me down.Don’t skimp on your reel. You can buy a less expensive rod for trolling. I have several cabelas trolling rods, ($35 ea.) and haven’t had an issue.

I would go Shimano Tekota if you’re trolling that big of fish. Lakers and salmon will blow up the drags on lesser reels. I’ve seen it happen.

Best line counter on the market but might be considered a bank breaker by many, I own 5 but bought them with my Cabelas points so weren’t so expensive. My next consideration for a line counter would be the Okuma Coldwater, low profile reels. They appear to have the dependability of the Convectors but not near as big and heavy.

Any of the reels listed above will give you good service. I would mention that Lakers being a deep water fish most of the year, and if you are planning to use lead core line take in consideration of the line capacity. I have a pair of Okuma 30D Convectors that hold 100 yards of 27# lead core and some small amount of mono. I actually prefer to use keel sinkers or downriggers over the leadcore.
