limited cold front success

Been a tough go past week with cold Temps and changing weather. Switched gears some chasing bluegills with perch being hard to come buy in my neck of the woods. Tungsten tubby jigs as well as small flashchamps loaded with spikes are tempting a few aggressive gills. Deep basin edges are better than shallow weeds currently. Small schools seem to yeild one or two aggressive fish before moving on. Fishing not fast and furious but good enough for sitting in the Otter on a cold day. Good luck to all going out. -QB

It’s been the same in SE WI. Cold and wind has been making it hard to move and most gills are no longer in the shallow weeds. We did get a nice break in the weather last Saturday though and I took full advantage of the family pond. At times it even takes 60 holes to find the fish in those 2+ acres but with 20″ of ice I got lucky and drilled one hole and sat on fish all afternoon. 10 gills well over 8″ and 5 crappie 9-12″, of course I was getting cocky and lost the biggest one in the transducer cable. It was my first trip with my new custom (IDO member) built noodle and in-line reel. Rod was excellent, just don’t try setting a hook unless you have that in-line reel engaged – backlash reminded me of summer ;)

A good time to “sharpen the saw”. Moving often and picking up one here and one there can be the only way sometimes. Good advice all around.

I love ice fishing but everywhere I’ve been lately has been tough. Way to stick with it and get a few QB. I’m sick of watching docile marks drift in, stare for 5 minutes, then leave…

I have to agree with you, the one time when 14 of us plan a trip to the Webster area and the weather changed pretty fast over night. Made for alot of seat time in the truck on the lake drilling holes and adding ten pounds of ice on the auger. Still better than working though. We ended up with some nice fish for everyone.

I fished in Maryland and NY in the last 7 days both during cold fronts slow bites. Did manage some fish. Same thing lucky with one or two agressive fish in a school.
