Ok I have now seen a lot of you guys talking about these. I have never heard of them before and wonder where they fit in to the other rod makers. I have two Gloomis GLX jigging rods and love them. I also have some Fenwick Elite Techs and a couple HMG’s which are good. What do you guys like about the Smoothie, for the price it seems like a no brainer but I really don’t “need” another rod. Would be for running lindy’s or jigging. TIA

I prefer the medium fast version over the medium light (Smoothie).
I have 1 smoothie and 5 of the medium fast.
The smoothie has been downgraded to only throwing jigs 1/8 oz or less and on 4 or 6# line.I’m not a fan of Extra Fast rods, so the medium fast is perfect for me. They reel in a lot of fish for me!
What i like about them.
They are light weight. Sensitive. Good backbone (not so much on the smoothie as compared to the medium) and the biggest factor for me by a long shot….BIG EYELETS
I think the medium fast is actually lighter in physical weight than the smoothie.Oh, and they’re $90.
To me, they’re where price meets performance…and made in MNTom SawvellInactivePosts: 9559May 12, 2020 at 12:32 pm #1941793I fish 3/8 ounce jigs on my two smoothies just fine. For the money they are a very adequate jigging tool, but they’ll also let you pull some slip-sinkers and minnows or crank in a medium sized crankbait.
They’re a really nice general purpose rod.

Mono and XF go together like PB and jelly imo.

[/quote]I’ve been eyeballing a Limit Creek – appreciate the feedback! Have a couple icerods and are excellent for the price point.
MN owned company, although doubt they are made in MN?Red EyePosts: 953May 12, 2020 at 1:06 pm #1941806To me, they’re where price meets performance…and made in MN.
False. Sold in MN. Made over seas. China I believe. I contacted owner trying to buy a blank. Could not get one cause all components are over seas.
May 12, 2020 at 1:13 pm #1941808Thanks for the reply’s I am not sold on the smoothie but would like to get my hands on them to check them out. Does anyone stock them? And keep the input coming if anyone else has any

The transition from wimp to stump is too sudden.
I find xf unnecessarily wimpy when fishing and when fighting a fish the xf section is useless and maybe even counter productive as all the head shakes are in the stumpy section which is more abusive than with a medium or fast rod. I prefer a slower action when fighting fish.
Mono. My hooksets are done while reeling in simultaneously. I want to STRETCH that mono to engage the hook. Just snapping the rod doesn’t get it done well enough for me. Lots of trial and error before I landed where I an on this subject.
May 12, 2020 at 1:30 pm #1941816I’m on my 2nd Limit Creek Smoothie. (First one I broke – my own fault, not the rod’s.)
For $90…I have to say, pretty darn impressed. I’ve never fished with a $300-$400 rod (Loomis etc.) so I can’t really compare it with the high end rods like those. I’m sure they’re very nice.
But compared to the $30-$50 rods I used to use for jigging, the Smoothies are way, way better. I’ve caught small crappie all the way up to 40″ northern/ giant cats etc on them, with no issue. I’m typically using it to jig for walleye on the river. I use 6lb fireline braid on mine, paired with a Pfluegger reel.
As to jig weight….I typically use 3/8 oz with no issues. A couple weeks ago i went to 3/4 oz cuz, well, a bit of current. Caught fish no problem on it.
I think 4 Seasons in Red Wing for sure carries it. Their web site probably specifies.

Blue Ribbon Bait also used to carry them.
I have 3 main rods I use for fishing walleyes on the river. Gloomis, St Croix Premier, and Smoothie.
My first choice is the Loomis. But they are 2 – 3 times the price as the smoothie.
I think the Smoothie is every bit as good as the St Croix Premier but a bit less expensive.

I’m in that trial and error now, especially with switching to mostly braid last year just to try it and mostly happy with results.
Appreciate the thoughts.

Not sure if FBRM is getting them mixed up or if I just read it wrong, but the Smoothie is a ML fast action rod, not extra-fast (but it sure feels like it should be). My biggest complaint on the smoothie was that I felt it was a little too stiff at the tip for fighting some walleyes. It felt similar to my medium XF scheels one rod I have. I used the smoothie as my “do everything” rod for several years and I loved it for that, but this spring I eventually bought a few different rods for lighter applications and so far I’m much happier with them. All in personal preference as others love the smoothie as a lighter rod for say light jig pitching, just wasn’t for me in those lighter applications.
If you’re buying a rod specifically for lindy rig fishing then the smoothie wouldn’t be my recommendation. Give me something a little longer and lighter at the tip for live bait rigging. To each his own though.

Thanks for your input. Curious what do you use and or recommend. I usually lindy with a medium light from 6’8 to 7ft.

Best livebait rod I’ve owned so far.
The long noodle like feel let’s a guy feel out whether it’s a fish or a rock that just bumped your line couple more seconds than your average stiffer MLs, and keeps those #8-#1 hooks pinned on those fish wonderfully.
Nothing better than watching your pole get that deep bend on a big fish while you’re reeling down on the hookset

If I’m being honest, I’m not a huge lindy rig fisherman myself. The few times I have played around with it I haven’t preferred the smoothie. I feel its better at pulling small walleye cranks, dragging spinners, or dragging/pitching 1/4ish oz and plus size jigs. Doesn’t have the finesse feel to it in my opinion. I have minimal experience with Elliots, but from what I could tell in store, I preferred an Elliot rod over similar g loomis’. If you can get over the funny handle and $250 price tag, I urge you to check out a 7’0-7’6 ML fast action rod from Elliot for live bait rigging. I ended up going with a 7’0 L myself but haven’t had the chance to use it yet.
May 14, 2020 at 7:14 am #1942257I have a few and have been using mine for pitching eighth ounce jigs on the river this spring. I love them for that application. Great for casting small cranks too. I’ll use them for up the 3/8th oz.
My loomis glx is a better and more sensitive rod but it’s not 4 times better based on the price differences.
Paired with a good 2000 series reel the smoothie is one of the best rods out there.
