Lighted tackle

I was wondering if anyone has ever used the lighted tackle from tundra? Do they work, and how long does the battery last? Thinking they should be good with these dark snow covered lakes this winter.

I tried some of the spoons. A red one and a gold one. I honestly wasn’t very impressed. It seemed like the light only worked for awhile maybe cause of cold water ? Not really sure. When I’d bring the spoon up to check the bait the light was often off or not very bright. Then once it was in the shack for a bit and maybe warmed up they would work again. Like I said I wasn’t impressed. And didn’t catch anything on red with them in December.

Thanks for the info is there a better lighted lure out there a guy should try instead? Iv used light sticks on Lindy spoons and the cold water they seem to get real dim also.

I have had the same experience with the glo sticks too with 13 and with the northland ones. The cold makes them very dim. I’m no pro or anything. Just my experience. I’m sure someone on here has used something that seems to work.

I got one of the tundra lighted lures and a couple of the Lindy spoons last year. After the first time out with the tundra last year the light quit working and hasn’t worked at all in any temp this year. The Lindy spoon glow sticks seem to work better but you have to take them out and shake them every so often. Just my 2 cents….

I think they only catch fisherman, not fish. I fell for them too. 😡

I also noticed with the glo sticks if ya take a lighter to them nicely and give them just a little heat along with the shake that helps a lot !

Yes just a little heat! You can usually see it glo better as you do it. Less is more lol.

Maybe we’ll hear a story of someone having to many beers, melting one and getting the glow stuff on their clothes lol!

The only reason I know about the lighter trick is cause we had a glo stick we thought was shot in the ash tray up on red and with a little heat from a cigarette it came right back to life !

That’s pretty slick! I’ll keep my used ones and try that next time. Thanks for the tip.

I have used the tundra for years early ice on red before the water clears up and they do work (red, green, and blue). Put one on a rattle reel overnight and had success too. I’ve had one defect and one that didn’t last long but plenty that have worked great. If you pull more than two northerns thru one hole the slime in the hole coats them and they won’t light…clean them off and use another hole. The first time my buddy had some and outfished me 5 to 1 till he finally gave me one. The glow stick style works too but I prefer the tundra. This year the buckshots outproduced them all year. And i have had minimal with them in clearer water and zero success on mille lacs.

More so the dirt/silt/sediment gets stirred up when its windy before it freezes over and it takes a week or two for that to settle. Last year the ice was speckled where we were drilling and the water that came up when drilling was more than stained. I didn’t mean the water is “clear” up there but early ice it can be dirtier than normal. If you read the early reports the resorts mention the water “clearing up”

I have had great luck with tundra lures on Red and Devils. Have not had the light stop working yet. Most the lures I have are 2 years or maybe a little older.
