I have 2- 200 ah batteries and the standard 75ah battery in my house, I can go 4 or 5 days without the generator.
Exactly! I had a guy drive out to my house sitting all by itself and drop his house feet from mine. Then immediately start the generator… I politely asked if that was necessary and he said, “well we need lights!” 
Your post reminded me about the International Dark-Sky Association
We used to own a home in a town in Arizona that is one of their designated cities. The only street lights in town were along two main streets. Otherwise it was dark…had to use brights on the truck to see street signs or even corners to make a turn. Spooky at times but man could you see the stars (for being in a city).
