What’s the best light you guys have found for a hub shack??
I’m okay with something removable/hanging
I have the battery powered streamlight lantern and love it. Batteries last a long time in it.
I used to take off our patio umbrella light at the end of summer and use it in the portable. It would clamp around the umbrella pole and had two brightness settings. Had a rechargeable lithium built in. Batteries lasted a long time. Plus I got year round use out of it.
Then 2 years ago I bought the DeWalt Buddy heater. Has a light in the handle 3 usb ports and a fan. No regrets on that purchase. The light is brighter than what I need really and the usb ports are always handy. Runs on my 20V DeWalt batteries. Now I don’t need to bring a light, fan or any usb charging bank. Just grab the heater a couple DeWalt batteries and go.
I use an LED strip light. have 2 different ones depending on the flasher i am using. just run the light behind the poles on the ceiling. the USB is nice because it can dim or change colors.

The clam hub light works well and is easy. Stays attached all the time. Can power off your flasher or a battery.
I just picked up Milwaukee M18 site light. WOW..Its unbelievable inside the shack. I already had a pile of M18 batteries with for the KDrill and I was sick of buying Big D batteries all the time for my other battery lantern that wasn’t even that good.
This this is like turning on the sun inside your shack. Has a integrated hook you can flip out for hanging from the roof. Also is great when setting up and tearing down in the predawn/after sunset. Also has a Spot light on it as well. Would HIGHLY recommend if you have Milwaukee stuff already.
Also found it very handy for home use in the garage, barn, storage room, basement, rigging the boat, working on the UTV…ect ect.

I bought an LED strip light from amazon and stuck it around an empty peanut butter container, stuffing the excess inside the container. I hang it from the center of the hub and have spade connectors so I can disconnect the light but leave my wire strung up in the hub all the time. Total cost was about $9 (not including the peanut butter) and time spent about five minutes (again not including the eating of the peanut butter).
Not my original idea, can’t remember where I saw it done first (probably on this forum a few years ago).
LED lights are so cheap I’d just search amazon. Can’t recall the exact ones I have but no need for expensive ones IMO. Though the fan light is pretty good idea.

Go with the Clam Hub Light. screws right into the hub and lights up the whole shack nicely, runs off your battery.
I bot this which doubles as fan when I run my Portable Buddy heater. I also have a little light from Harbor Freight I can use if needed. I live near Chicago so I have to man haul my gear and weight is a big issue with me.
Thanks for all the replies guys
I like the idea of the Clam that has the fan, but it looks like it gets mixed reviews on sale sites
Anybody else have it? Good? Bad? Okay?
I have some extra 12ah SLA batteries to power it (or any other type I end up with)

I like this one too.
I like the idea off a downward facing light, versus a traditional lantern style (outward light).
My hub is all black inside, so the light needs to face the ice for the best reflection.
By the way…..I recently joined the dark side
Needed something a little bigger for taking the snot rockets with.
The Kenai doesn’t cut it lol
Side note: we improvised a sled today out of Reflectix, it kept the kids busy when the fishing was slow
I bought 2 led light strips and a remote dimmer switch both 12v on amazon 3 years ago for right around $10 and they still work great today. No need to spend lots of $$$$ on lights save that for more tackle lol .
I paired my 12v strip with the remote dimmer too. Great combo!

I was looking at the led strips and had two questions.
Most look like 120v and need a converter even though they say they are 12v, is that right or are there 12v on Amazon?
Has anyone put these on the inside of their sled? I’m guessing they might not last forever but for 10 bucks that would be awesome for cleanup and to watch your stuff on the ride back in!
Well after reading reviews on various store-bought units, I’ve decided to Frankenstein up my own light/fan combo. I think having a fan will be nice to keep the kids toes warmer.
Picture a 5x5x5 cube open ended cube with a recessed and protected computer fan in the middle and a folding flood light on one of the open ends of the cube.
Going to make the cube out of 1/2″ black hdpe and have switches for the fan and light and a recessed SAE 12V socket. Then hardwire a 12 SAE plugged wire into the hub, from the peak to a bottom corner (where a 12ah SLA battery can sit)
It will be more rugged and better built than what I’ve seen online. I can picture myself shattering one of those Clam light/fans in the sled on the first night.
I’ve ordered enough parts to make a pair of them, or just have spare parts available.
It will cost about $40 to make one.
.
The fan has it’s own light for a glow in the shack when the big light is off
The only thing left to decide is how to hang it. Was thinking a couple small stainless eye bolts with carabineers to latch around the center hub. Or skip the carabineers and just use stainless hooks?
Any different ideas?
Here’s a half drunk drawing on a paper plate, I’m obviously not an architect lol
Meant to post these 120mm ones.
They should allow the cube to be big enough for the light to fold into the end and be protected during transport.
