Finally got a chance to run the boat after raising the motor 1 hole. Now it’s in the 3rd hole.
I’m running a 15p Nemesis 4 Blade.
PROS:
1) Less steering torque, which I find surprising. I was expecting more.
2) I seem to have more lift. The spray was just past 1/2 way back on the hull, now it’s almost even with me in the driver seat.
3) Ride seems smoother as well. While it was dead calm last night, I did run through some other boat wakes and most of the time I
didn’t even really feel the wake at 37 mph!
4) Speed/RPM increase. I really had to push hard to get to 6300 in calm water and get to 37 mph. I easily hit 38 mph at 6300 rpm.
5) Ran around 35 miles last night in the upper RPM ranger between 5900 and 6300 rpm burned 9.8 gallons of fuel. That seems pretty good as well!
CONS:
1) Getting prop slip if I try to gun it from a stand still.
2) Alone I could break 6300 rpm when I got into some chop.
Over all I think raising the motor was a positive improvement. I think this rig would really benefit from the SpitFire X7 XP Pro Finished (13 x 15″) prop. These are very expensive in Canada and would sure like to find one to try first! We have trip coming up, so I am planning on spending 4 days on the water with a normal load before I decide on this prop
I think these are pretty good numbers for a 115hp on 20′ aluminum with 50 gallons of fuel, 4 31 series batters, charger, graphs etc.
