I have a new boat on order and will put a 24 or 36 volt trolling motor on it. Is anyone using the 24 or 36 volt lithium batteries? Seems like a weight and space saving plan, but they are more spendy. Other than cost are there any other disadvantages? I have a Robalo 206 Cayman on order for next year.

I know one guy using a 24 volt….seems to work great but I think you need to be really careful on charging below 32 degrees.

Maybe not an issue for you but I know some guys have heat wraps for them when charging and running in cold weather.

I do not know anything about the batteries. But a guy I fish mille lacs with has a 2016 cayman and those are absolutely awesome rides.

    Bearcat,
Thanks for your input on the boat. I’m looking forward to getting an upgrade. Currently I have a Robalo R160.

The lithium batteries are relatively new technology in the world of marine batteries. I saw some in the Bass Pro spring flyer under Tracker Lithium for 500 bucks each. Seemed like that was a bit steep. If a battery is going to cost me 5 times as much as a standard lead acid battery, it better last 5 times as long too.

I have a 24V Battleborn system. I got them to save weight in my jon boat.

They are guarantied for 10 years. They are expensive but are marketed for 4000 charge cycles. Do the math.

As Matt said, you shouldn’t charge them unless they are above 32F. Mine have a temp sensor so you cannot destroy them by trying. They can be discharged below 32F however.

Let me know if you have other questions.

What brand do you have Jason? Sounds legit it there’s a decade long warranty.

    Battleborns.

In hindsight 100AH was overkill for my needs. I probably would have been just fine with the 50AHs. I have never even scratched the surface of their capacity. Every single time I have ever used them I put the charger on them and it says they are almost fully charged. I use them to power my 80# Ulterra.
