Lexa problems, anyone else?

Got a brand new Lexa 400 for Christmas. Took it our for the first time on a memorial day pike trip, spool randomly engaged or not after the cast.

Thorne is a warranty center so I took it in. They did some work that was basically cleaning and greasing. Did a 30 minute casting test off the dock this weekend, 7 failures to engage. Made absolutely sure it wasn’t operator error. Not sure if I should take it back to Thorne or pay the shipping to send to Daiwa.

I’ve seen internet rumors of other Lexa problems but nothing concrete. Anyone here know of this issue and a fix?

Have the same issue with a LH lexa (the wifes).

I never had it randomly engage while casing just after the cast when your reeling it would not engage. She would manually flip it up all the time anyway, so I just noticed it when I used it.

We sent it off to a guy at the muskie show to get redone. He replaced all the bearings and some wear items and it was like new.

Also want to clarify, I have 3 of Lexa’s total. only 1 has that issue and all 3 have been rebuilt.

just after the cast when your reeling it would not engage.

Bummer, I’m not alone and mine is brand new. Thanks for the feedback, looks like there’s hope to get it fixed.

I have an LH version also. Mine randomly engages during the cast. About halfway through the flight of the cast and it engages and chatters as the lure falls wherever it was when it engaged. Happens about one in 25 casts.

It’s my backup so planning to send it in over the winter. Mines out of warranty, so was planning to send back to Diawa unless there is a better option posted here.

Update: Thanks to Tong at Thorne Bros we’ve figured out what is happening.

To recreate you don’t have to cast. Push the thumb bar down as lightly as you can. It goes far enough to release the spool, stay down, and the audible sound indicating it’s ready. However it didn’t go far enough so that the reel handle can re-engage the spool again.

Part of this is me with how I engage the thumb bar. Still shouldn’t happen so Tong has some ideas and is going to work on it.
