It’s just attached to the tilting “U-bracket” that came off the boat. The unit in the photo is my buddies Helix 10. Mine is a 9 and have to crawl under my cover to get it this weekend.

And yes, that is revision A in the photo on the floor. Lol. It’s all aluminum and the latest is powder coated. It’s nice to have an entire metal shop to play with. )

So when it’s in the bucket, is it just removed from the bracket with the two knob screws? I was curious if it was on some sort of swiveling mount.

It’s on a swivel mount. It has a wing nut lock nut and stops at the 90 degree locations. It has snap buttons to telescope up and down. It telescopes up 9″ taller. You could leave it down if you enjoy getting “shack back” from being hunched over your locator. grin

It’s that time of year again. I think I’m going to modify my shuttle this year to make it smaller and lighter.

Starting on my DIY shuttle/power box. I think I’m on the right track.

Thinking of painting the pink to black. Want to put a ram mount on top for when I’m holed up and not running and gunning. Would put a grommet to run cords to the top side.

Want to add usb/cig and place to attach led lights. Would hide all wire behind the foam on top.

Might add a rod holder or 2 on the sides for when hole hopping.

I BELIEVE I should be able to just close the top and run and gun.

Open to all suggestions and negative comments. Let me know your thoughts.

    It’s getting colder

Brad, I’m waiting on a delivery of a Helix 7 and have thoughts of doing what you did, but putting the head unit in the top.

That was my thought as well. Just adding a ball to the top. But then I’d always have to be carrying an extra piece. I decided to just stick with it inside so it is fully enclosed and protected. The power box/carrying case has turned out nicely

Don’t remember where I saw it but someone had a box like yours with a ram mount ball mounted to the side of the box with another ball on the helix head unit, and all of it would swivel into the box and be closed. I thought that was a good idea as you could put the head unit back into your boat just as easy.

I’ll upload some more pictures this weekend when I’m out fishing. I’ve made some changes since posting the original photos.

I have been doing that. Unfortunately there are not that many up here in the sticks. But I will keep looking.

Brad Muckenhirn, I was just looking at your box, again, and noticed that your head unit is attached to the top, and sits in the foam when it’s closed.

I should look at the pic better before I open my mouth. You used the mount for the boat to hold it into the top of your box.

I finally got my Helix 7 and shuttle. Had to make a little adapter plate to get gimble bracket up so could charge the shuttle.

Still no transducer hoping they will be in next week.

My shuttle for a Helix 7. Made from shop scraps and finished with three coats of spar polyethylene.

Pretty close to mine. I’m planning to re-do mine this year and will do something similar to what you did here. Thanks for the post!
