The big smallmouth was caught catfishing with a 9′ surf rod and Okuma 90 reel. The tail was gone but it was probably still my PB smallmouth. That little tiny baby was caught in the same location on a live bait spinner. When the crappie are biting in my favorite early season spot they are all the size of a bucket and it can be very fun.

These are the most recent PBs I have. 21 inch smallmouth (tie) out of Mille Lacs and the Rum River. Tiger Muskie was 41 inches back in June 2020, and had a replica made by LAX.

Here’s my wife’s 50.5″ musky from Eagle Lake, ON. It t-boned a small walleye and wouldn’t let go. You can see the tail coming out the left side of her mouth. When It might have unpinned in the net, but when I opened her mouth the jig fell out and I had to pull the walleye out with pliers. She landed it on #8 mono while jigging for walleye, so we were pretty unprepared for that battle. Definitely would have brought out the bigger net if we were targeting them that morning.

Not sure which is the better trophy, the fish or each of my kids smiles. Don’t care about wt/length, all big fish, all still swimming today.

I’m kind of a newbie here. I would have a hard time knowing what most of my PBs are, since I’m not the hard-core and successful kind of angler that many folks here are, and for those same reasons, most of my PBs are not too special. However, I do enjoy going after channel catfish and I know what my personal best was for that species. And I even have a picture of it. It was 36 inches and about 24.5 pounds (I didn’t get an exact weight because I was trying to stand up while using the scale to hold up the fish inside the landing net, in a tiny boat in choppy conditions, but it definitely was between 24 and 25 pounds). I caught this in October of 2022 while targeting northern pike. At first I thought I had a PB northern pike, but when it became clear that the fish wasn’t going to get tired for a REALLY long time, I knew it must be a catfish.

Funny thing, I’ve caught about four other channel cats of this same length, but all of them were a bit under 20 pounds. This guy was a brute, and the hardest puller of them all too.

    Also, I released this fish.

Back when I was 19 years old (1992) I caught this 32 1/2” walleye out of the Missouri River in Pierre SD.
Had it weighed at Oahe marina. 13.2 lbs.

Haven’t been able to crack the 30” mark since.
