Putting gas in my boat near Excelsior early afternoon and a guy at the station said my timing was right since Minnetonka just opened up. THIS IS UNOFFICIAL. A quick google did not find anything. Maybe tomorrow I’ll take a drive around several bays.

Im on the west side of tonka. West Arm and Harrison were wide open yesterday. I imagine after todays wind there isn’t much left of anything in the entire lake.

Boat will be out this weekend assuming she starts

I’ll be out Thursday or Friday, or maybe Wednesday. It’s nice being retired!!

I think they declare official ice out on Tonka when the Hennepin county water patrol can navigate all the way from east to west (or vice versa) without running into ice. I imagine they’ll try tomorrow.

From the Freshwater Society: Lake Minnetonka is declared ice-free when a boat can pass through channels and navigate all portions of the lake.

They had predicted April 2nd but I would imagine this wind has pushed the ice to shore.

Every lake, river, pond that I passed while driving from the Twin Cities to Cloquet this morning was ice free. North of Cloquet everything was still locked-up.

We were out Sunday on a bay and found the crappies already.

I drove around the east end of the lake. Everything including backwaters was open. The only 2 places I saw floating, wind-blown ice was the mouth of the creek just east of Wayzata Yacht Club and the lagoon in the northeast corner of Wayzata Bay.

I saw that photo and thought to myself that yesterday would have been a much better day.
