With the forecast I think we will have great ice conditions almost everywhere within a week or so. Have not been out in a few weeks and am planning on getting out someplace tomorrow. Trying to decide where to go. Knowing what ice conditions are like in some areas may help. Maybe just a update of the ice thickness the last time you were out.

In my local area, Lincoln lakes area, 9-11 inches is common but the areas around Anchor North restaurant (Castaway) froze very oddly this year and I have not felt it safe enough to go out of yet. use caution if checking. and up until at least Christmas the was “large” area of open water to the west of Big island on Fishtrap lake. The area I was on still had a good 10 inches of ice.TommyPosts: 99January 3, 2025 at 1:33 pm #2308425when i was up over a week ago near bowstring……..i fished 2 lakes…..one had 14 inches the other 11!

Everyone I talked to said we didnt get rain here it was just gloomy and drizzly the whole time. Nothing significant. ALl I know is the snow, what little there was to begin with, is all gone.

I always had a hard time understanding why that place never did better. Great location and nice place. I often stop there for a meal while fishing the lake. I use to do real well on Crappies out in front and a little west of the castaway.

Castway area has been my go to icefishing area for 20+ years. But with the aerators and a kid in hockey my time has been limited.

We fished the ottertail/Perham area between Christmas and New Year and had 12” of ice. Couple of trucks out but not many with the warmer temps. We did find one area with less, maybe around 8-10”. We were using ATVs.
