there’s still a chance WILD might as well be the 5th team in NHL playoff history to be down 0-3 and come back and win the series, heck the Kings did it last year in round 2 and won the cup………
May 6, 2015 at 4:01 pm #1541823I’m not giving up on them.
I should have said confidence instead of loyalty.
I do think they’ll avoid the sweep tomorrow night and travel back to Chicago. The win might rejuvenate them enough to find that road magic and get a second win. Can you imagine how electric the X would be(pun intended) on Saturday for game six?!
I’ve had a little Kool-Aid but hey…If nothing else it would be nice to enjoy a couple more exciting games.
May 6, 2015 at 4:44 pm #1541837Well I’m not confident they will pull it off. The magnitude is against them. I don’t use the term statistics for reason.
Can’t have a bad game now, there’s no margin for error. Heck all chicago has to do is be patient. All they need is a break in one of four games. I’m just going to take it one game at a time.
May 7, 2015 at 3:38 pm #1542187I think they’ll make it interesting.. I predict they win the next 2 games, then game 6 will be an overtime game, i’m not picking a winner because we all know who has the OT luck….hopefully the Wild get a bounce or 2 their way…
May 7, 2015 at 4:01 pm #1542215Well we all know they will win tonight just to mess with our opener…
May 7, 2015 at 4:06 pm #1542233The Wild need to rally and win one, if only to save face. Winning the series is, I’m afraid, a very tall order. Winning tonight is an achievable goal and that’s what they need to focus on.
Now is a particularly bad time to be getting poor production across almost the entire offense. I don’t know what the problem is. Is it the system? The lines? What? I just feel like there should be far more offense being generated from the likes of Koivu, Coyle, Nino, Vanek, and Pom.
I have to give credit to the Blackhawks, they suddenly have it running on all cylinders in the playoffs, no doubt.
C’mon Wild. Let’s at least go out of MN with a win!

Blackhawks are playing sound, collapsing defense. The Wild still had chances, they need to bury them.
Yeo was right on in his presser today. They are giving us everything on the outside, so we need to get into the dirty areas more.
May 7, 2015 at 7:36 pm #1542293It’d be nice if we could do what the Canadians are doing to the lightning tonight, despite being down 3 games to 0.

May 8, 2015 at 6:39 am #1542397WIlD = Vikings = WILD = Vikings = WILD = Vikings……… Boy its tough to be a MN fan. I was really hoping the WIlD could get past the Hawks but not happening this year and as we always say in MN “Well there is always next year” …….
May 8, 2015 at 8:05 am #1542441bottom line, the Wild somehow needs to get more skilled, tough to do with our roster and contracts…. They are a good team, but the West is loaded with good teams (The Kings didn’t even make the playoffs) We don’t have a Kane or Toews and that was evident this series…
We either need to hit the jackpot with a mid-round draft pick turning into a superstar or trade for a under-performing rookie (Nail Yakupov) and hope he can turn his career around. The McDavid and Eichel’s of the world will always be out of our reach….
Tough to see the season over, lots of young players progressed (Dumba,Scandella,Nino, Zucker) while aging players regressed (Pominville/Vanek/Koivu)
I’d like to see the following this offseason:
1) Bruno is fired from being the Powerplay coach, powerplay is completely changed with all new personnel
2) Fletcher somehow, someway trades Pominville, Vanek or both this offseason (good luck with those contracts)
3) Parise is made captain
4) Wild picks up a gritty/tough forward (Chris Neil) & defenseman (Jackman)roosterrousterInactiveThe "IGH"...Posts: 2092May 8, 2015 at 8:31 am #1542467Need to give credit where credit is due. Chicago is a damn nice hockey team. Kane is a freakin’ beast…RR

This will accomplish absolutely nothing. It’s just a patch on the jersey. Leaders are leaders no matter what the jersey says.

It sends a signal to fans and the team that the past is no more, a new start…

I would tend to agree with you. The guy currently wearing the “C” shouldn’t even have an “A” on his uni…
May 8, 2015 at 9:46 am #1542513I was saying to Mrs. Grouse last night, how do the Wild NOT end up with at least one of these franchise players like Kane. Or Towes. Or Hosa. Or…
Well, the answer is you can’t blow your first round draft picks like the Wild were doing from 2004-2009 when they picked a list of busts, losers, and no-names and then managed to trade off the only first round choice (2009 Nick Leddy) who turned out to be worth anything. Traded him to Chicago.
I’m seeing signs of life in the last two years with Dumba and last year with Tuch, but overall the Wild have been miserable in the first round and below par in the second.
It was great to get Parasie and Suter as free agents who finally worked out, but overall if you look at the league there’s not much that’s going to do you MORE good than picking right in the first two rounds.
Compare to the Blackhawks:
Draft: W Patrick Kane, first round (first overall) 2007; C Jonathan Toews, first round (third overall), 2006; D Duncan Keith, second round, 2002; D Brent Seabrook, first round, 2003; G Corey Crawford, second round, 2003; W Brandon Saad, second round, 2011; W Bryan Bickell, second round, 2004; D Niklas Hjalmarsson, fourth round, 2005.
Free agency: W Marian Hossa, 2009, 12-year, $63 million contract.
Trades: W Patrick Sharp, 2005, from Philadelphia for Matt Ellison; D Johnny Oduya, 2012, from Winnipeg for second- and third-round picks.
It was great the way the Wild pulled up from their tailspin this year, but overall there’s still a lot to be done because as we see with Chicago, the gap between a team that can win in Round 1 and then win again in Round 2 is pretty wide.
It’ll be interesting to see what the off season brings. The Wild will shed Backstrom, Harding, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see some trades around draft time.

May 8, 2015 at 10:16 am #1542537getting the types of game changing players like Kane and Toews requires a top 3 pick (and typically the #1 overall player turns out to be a franchise type player) (yes there are Brian Lawton’s for every Patrick Kane) It also requires your team sucking bigtime for years… Whatever way you look at it (fortunate/unfortunate) the Wild has never had that bad of a season to get a pick that high (other than expansion when we got Gabby at #3) The few years we really did suck, we ruined by winnings meaningless games at the end of the season and missing out on top 3 picks…
The Riseborough years really set this franchise back 3-5 years in terms of development, Fletcher has restocked the cupboards the last 3-4 years and we’re seeing that now with the depth we have. He needs to now start focusing on taking bigger risks drafting potential boom/bust scorers.
May 8, 2015 at 10:19 am #1542539It should also be noted that Chicago went ALL IN this year knowing that Kane and Toews new MONSTER contracts hit the books next season, their roster will look MUCH different next year as they’ll need to trim alot of salary. They also traded their 1st round pick for the Antoine Vermette rental…
They also got a quality player like Richards to take HUGE price drop 1 year contract for a chance at winning a cup…we’re not there yet…
but as others have stated, they were just plain better than the Wild again…
May 8, 2015 at 11:06 am #1542553Probably @fish333 aka Gary D. He seems shady….
DTYes, I have been a Blackhawk fan for many moons. Believe me I had my doubts at the start of the play-off. Like I said before the people in the know said that the Wild have a very good chance at winning the first round against the Hawks. Well but!! Being from Hastings,Mn I still like the Viking and Twins.
Hey I,m not shady I,m a redheaded #$%#$%. LOL LOLGO HAWKS!!!!!
May 8, 2015 at 11:35 am #1542559I for one think Dumba is a gem… just needs a little polish and he can shine. I love how he has that “shoot first” mentality… like the great one said… “I missed 100% of the shots I never took”
May 8, 2015 at 11:44 am #1542563…it’s hard to stay out of this thread. I’ll try and stay nice.
First of all I think the Wild were mentally exhausted from trying to just make the playoffs. Much like President trophy winners who drain themselves trying to have the best regular season record.
Chicago executed their plan perfectly and Crawford was the difference. It’s not like the Wild didn’t have stellar chances, its that they couldn’t finish.
The youngsters had good playoffs last year, this year not so much, placing more pressure on the vets. Our veteran core is not the problem.
Vanek, congratulations, we have Heatley 2.0….except this one does nothing in the playoffs. I can’t believe people were pining for him for 2 years. He’s streaky, but not conventional streaky where you have a good run and then are average. He has a good run and then has a run where he is detrimental to the team. Get used to it, we’re stuck 2 more years. At $6-7M, he’s going to be a top paid bottom 6, PP “specialist”.
I’m losing or have lost my patience with Coyle. He’s really not progressing. Certainly no where close to being a power forward AT this point. I wouldn’t be upset if they traded him, but that isn’t going to happen. So my best recourse is to hope he pulls his head out this off season.

I agree, it’s always better to have an early first round pick, but just to stick with the comparison, look at what the Blackhawks managed to get even in the second round!
This, to me, just cements how worthless Riseborough was. Not only did he suck in the first round, but he was even below average in the later rounds.
I’m happy to see a more immediate payoff lately. Dumba is really coming along and he inflicts PAIN with his shot. Hossa was the latest victim last night when Dumba gave him a little wakey wakey with crisp little zinger from the point. Better have the heavy duty gonad guard on if you want to block Dumba’s shots.
So basically the question for me is when does Tuch get into the lineup and who’s going to get traded this off season?

He also has swagger and is gritty for his size. You can tell after the game the guys who were really taking it hard and he was one of them. Something this team sorely lacks.
I forgot to add that from a physical stand point, this was one of the most boring series I have watched. You’d think playing a team 3 years in a row that is in your division would spawn a little hatred. And it was also one of the most boring overall. No OT, no last minute victories (that I can recall), including the Blues.
