Does anyone know what the legality is on owning Gadget guns? Think of Cane’s that are shotguns, Pen’s that shoot a .22 round, lipstick case that is a gun. I’ve seen several really crazy ones. I think it would be kind of a fun item to get into collecting them. I’m not sure I’d want to shoot some of the designs that are out there. I do have a carry permit if that makes a difference.

I think they are covered by the NFA as AOWs, any other weapons. Any transfer of ownership involves an application and paying for a tax stamp

Well that would suck. I hate that whole tax stamp BS. I believe that you would need one for each item as well. That would be rather costly and a big hassle. I might have to think of something else fun to collect.

If you can buy one from a dealer or someone that owns one legally in the same state, the tax stamp for AOW is cheap compared to silencer/machine gun/SBR/SBS. And yes it is one stamp per item and you can transfer the stamp if you sell the item. The stamps are a bargain now compared to when the NFA started in the 1930’s as the price of the stamp hasn’t increased since

Yep, AOW. NFA paperwork isn’t necessarily hard, just not worth it to most people. On the bright side, I believe an AOW stamp is only $5…compared to $200 for a SBR or suppressor…

And approval times for a Form 4 transfer are about 9 months from the time the BATFE cashes your check, when I bought my last silencer it was about 6 months to approval

Collecting isn’t unreasonable considering the stamp for AOW is only $5 instead of $200, but wait times suck right now.
