We do a college buddy trip every winter. We rent cabins and fish on our own, have all the gear and enjoy bringing fish home. It started 15 years ago on leech and we haven’t been back for probably 10. We’ve gone to Winnie a couple times the last few trips and did well one year and ice was crap. What’s the outlook for leech this year?

Can’t say about this year but took two trips last winter to Leech and most of our walleye were 16-18″ and off the reefs. Decent numbers, too. Planned to jump over to Winnie but we did well enough that we just stayed on Leech the whole week. We’ll be back once or twice this winter for sure.

The ice up there varies greatly mainly depending on how much ice has formed before any significant snowfall comes.

The Winnie resorts have much better road systems then leech!!

Fishing any lake is a crap shoot.

I was probably a huge PITA to the resort manager asking about ice thickness for at least a month before our Christmas to New Year’s trip. Since it was only 10″ about 3/4 mile out, we knew it wasn’t an option to drive our Tundra out so we bought a new Polaris Ranger 500 and trailer. Missing out on two Canada trips last year allowed us to justify the investment.

    Glenn,

Does anyone besides high banks and nodak have roads?

yes, there are a couple resorts on the west side that do, think beckers resort is one, and for the life of me I can’t think of the others on that side

Pretty certain the resort north of high anks, think it’s tamarack lodge has some roads out

I would assume your fishing walleyes, but the one thing I have been consistently been hearing about Winnie, is since the zeebs have been in there the perch have not been doing there usual routine, especially late ice
