heading up on wednesday morning, staying through sunday. Staying up at federal dam campground. Plan right now is to try the shallow bays on the east side with minnows and probably do some trolling too. Not a whole lot of experience on leech so hopefully my group can put some pattern together in the four days. Are there any rock piles along the shorelines of portage bay? I’m guessing yes. Just need to find em, put the side imaging to work. All else fails, outdoornews says goose island is producing so maybe make the run over there. Hopefully I can give a decent report come sunday night.

I spent September 30th to the 5th up there. I can offer some help but in my 11 years of fishing leech I have never fished the federal dam area. There were some guys in the cleanhouse at the cabin who had and they had some very nice perch and eyes from that area.

Leech can be windblown. Find shore lines/points that have had wind on them for a few days. When I was up there the wind was out of the East, ESE, and SE. Big and Little hardwood points, goose island, goose flats, pine point, stony point, otter tail point, were all producing fish when I was up there.

Walleyes–check out the Two Points area–if the winds are southerly–not to bad a ride from the Dam. Maybe 4′-10′?

This time of year I spend most of my time in the 9′-12′ range just before the drop off into deeper water in portage bay. These areas have always held fish for me…(Same areas that I concentrate on in the Spring…). Jig n minnow (I have better luck w/ fats this time of year…)…RR

you will find a bunch of boats on the shallow flat on your way out of the river channel, going out into the bay. If the wind is blowing into the bay get your drift on, and don’t be too soon to turn around for a new drift, sometimes heading in shallower is better. I imagine Waboose will be going well, just don’t mess up somebodies decoy spread! Bring plenty of minnows.

Make sure to do some night trolling as well. Two points, five mile and sugar point area are all good.

We fished Diamond Pt. and the Clay Banks area yesterday with the NW wind and had nice fish in 4′ -7′. 1/8th ounce jig and rainbow or #6 Rippin’ Rap in glow yellow perch took our best fish.
