I’m a lifetime Mac guy, with very little experience in Microsoft anything. I use Excel as needed… but that is about it. I have taken on duties for a non-profit club to help with membership. The complicated membership system (more to it than just contact stuff) is currently done in a 20 year old, highly defined doss program.

I need to turn the corner, and get it into something new… my thought, access. I have an old PC that I can get, running XP if that matters.

Anyone have a suggested path for learning the software, on line? I’m nervous enough about the task at hand.. the old doss crap scares the poop out of me. Looking to get good fundamentals, and then move on from there.

Good luck with that Chuck. I used to use Access a lot but then went a few years without and when I returned, it was like a foreign language. Use it or lose it I guess. Setting up the fields for the data base is usually the really easy part, figuring out how to write queries and reports to get the information back out is the struggle, at least for me.

    Chuck,
My local Community College (College of DuPage) offers an online Access course. There might be more of these out there, but since it’s online, who cares where it’s based out of?

This has been a great resource for me over the years: UtterAccess.com

If you go the Access route one thing to consider is how much data you have. Depending on your version of Access, there are file limitations. For instance, the max size for a single DB in Access 2007 is 2GB, but there are ways around this. Good luck with your project.
