Leaking Lazer

I’ve got a SM Lazer (the Tecumseh vintage). It runs well, but I’ve noticed that is slowly leaking gas when stored (upright) in the garage. It appears to be dripping from the carb, but I guess it could be from a fitting, too. Any ideas? I’m hesitant to mess with the carb since it’s running well.

Anyone that mentions that I should upgrade to a battery auger or some drill/auger combo will be beaten with a yard stick.

Probably needs a carb kit, super easy to do

Wouldn’t it run like crap if it needed a carb kit?

Does the carb have a drain off screw or port? Loose? Gasket? Hose clamp on a fuel line?

Check for loose screws but not adjuster screws. Gas line probably getting old.

Likely this. I have replaced twice. It cracks where It presses on carb and leaks fuel. I just did it. Very cheap online. I lucked out and found at Gerlach in Cottage Grove the day I needed it. The first time I took it in for repair but it’s not difficult.

Sounds like you need to replace the needle and seat, sticking open allowing fuel to drip through carb.
Just realized could be tc2 engine. The needle and seat were a common problem for the 3 hp,just drop the diaphram and replace needle and seat.I still believe its the needle sticking allowing fuel to slowly drip thru the carb, this is part of the carb kit and they are pretty easy to do,but if you have trouble lots of good videos on you tube.Did alot of them when I owned my baitshop.

It’s a 2 HP. I wiped it down and will see if I can pinpoint the heal a little better.

I had one that leaked, it was a hairline crack in the fuel tank.

    Ralph,

You need to replace the fuel line and fuel filter.

The outside of the fuel line is used to create the seal between the tank and the line and the fuel filter is used to add a slight increase in line diameter to add some pressure to the seal.

Tecumseh has used this system for years. As the line ages it looses elasticity and the seal fails.

    Good Luck

Is this what you mean by filter?

Thats not a filter, its the fitting that goes into the carb. That can be a leak point though. If there is a filter it would be inn the tank on the end of the fuel pick up tube.

Your best bet is to wipe everything off well and watch/wait for the fuel to show up. There are multiple spots where fuel can leak from on that setup, most if not all have been mentioned in prior posts.

I know this is not going to sound good but…one way to track a leak is to dust the area with flour.

    That’s what I thought.

That’s the plan. Unfortunately, I forgot to look before work today. ) Oh well, ice fishing is not a passion for me so it only gets sparing use, and it runs well, so the only urgency is to save $$$ on that expensive TruFuel and keep my garage from stinking too much. )
