Does anyone have pics or articles they’ve found of how they’ve put lead shot in husky jerks to cast farther? I’ve heard it’s a common thing for people to do casting from shore on Erie

Lead shots from like a shot gun?

    That’s interesting.

I’ve heard of guys doing it to the balsa baits, but nothing with plastic. If you find anything be nice to post back. Have me curious now on how well those lead strips would work on the textured exterior of a husky….

There are a lot of similar baits with a design that includes a weight that shifts to the tail for casting, but holds the bait horizontal when retrieving. The max rap is one I like for casting into the wind when necessary but again there are a lot of similar options with different profiles.

I’ve done it with Yo-Zuri floating baits that I wanted to sink rather than float and the sinking model didn’t have the colors I wanted. I had to drill a small hole and then feed the #6 shot into the bait, checking after each five or six to see if I had enough to do what I wanted. The hole was sealed with simple epoxy. The baits rattled like crazy and cast a mile but in the “Zuris” the pellets liked to remain in the rear most chamber of the bait and changed the action so I just went back to buying the sinking models and repainting as needed.

The Husky Jerk was supposed to have been designed directly in response to those wanting a #13 weighted Rap. The benefit was that not only was it heavier to cast farther, it was able to suspend as well. I would suggest using some of the lead tape to help add a little more weight.

Suspen-dots do the job for a little while until they peel off from hooks snagging on them then making the bait twirl. Any suspen-dots in front of the hooks are fine. Just wondering if anyone has had a permanent fix for adding weight without problems.
