Lead Core

Having trouble finding the answer on Google. If I remember right, Suffix 832 dives 7 feet per color. What does their regular performance dive per color?

Suffix has 2 different kinds of Lead Core. Advanced (dives about 7 feet per color) and Performance (dives about 5 feet per color). I prefer the Performance Lead Core.

I agree, I’ve tried both and much prefer the Performance lead core. 5 feet per color is good rule of thumb.

I prefer the Performance also but it’s likely because I got used to 5 ft./color at about 2 mph when I started fishing leadcore and it’s now a part of my comfort zone.

I’ve only used advanced, fishing here in SE WI on Lake Michigan. For those that prefer the other, why?

Most lead core is 5ft per at 2MPH.

Easier to count by 5 vs 7.:???:
I also prefer the 5 ft per color lead as I feel like I can dial it in easier.

The advanced it just too fragile. If you’re fishing anything other than sand/mud, you’re going to get hung up/fowl hooked and it’s going to twist (even with a swivel). I love the fact that it dives quicker but its just so fragile. I run it on two of my reels still but only when it needs to go deep. It just doesn’t come off the spool nice like the standard 5′ per color stuff does. Kind of hard to explain without having used both. Unless you’re very experienced with lead core i would stick with the 5′ stuff in every situation…

If advanced twists, it’s done for. I also like to be able to pull somewhat shallow with my normal leadcore, say 8-10′ as well but keep line from being in the shadow of the boat. It’s amazing how much better it tracks than fireline pulled shallow.

Got into a few on lead tonight. Ended up with 5 walleyes and 5 crappies.

If you look up leadcore trolling chart you’ll find a pdf with speeds and depths.

    Looks like a beautiful evening.

Lead core newbie question, when you say 5 feet per color is that regardless of the lure you are using?

    Not necessarily.

I did a large write up if you follow the instructions in my previous post. Lots of details there I don’t feel like repeating.

Spinners on leadcore would reduce the drive curve because they are resistance without a natural dive whereas a super deep driver may pull line deeper.
