I’m new to the le sueur county area and just curious if has any knowledge on a good walleye lake/lakes to get out on the ice and chase some eyes. Seems to be a high percentage of small lakes that get stocked pretty heavy

I grew up in Waseca, not too far from there. I work in Le Sueur County. You’re best bet is to hit lakes by mankato. Washington is a very popular walleye lake. But, use extreme caution. That’s a lake that has springs, and can have some shotty ice on it. Back in high school, we used to fish Scotch. No idea what the size would be now, but it had some decent numbers. We used to fish that early ice. The lakes down here aren’t very great, especially for walleyes.

I also am new to Le Sueur County. I haven’t made it out yet this year but plan on getting out almost all day Friday – Sunday in the area. I looked up every lake in the County in the DNR Lake Finder and got a general idea of what lakes contain what species, sizes, and numbers. From I what could tell, Washington and Cannon appear to be the better Walleye lakes. I’m sure after a few years around here, I’ll stumble across a few others not as well known that produce as well. Looks like a lot of lakes that have high numbers of smaller panfish around here.

Having lived in the area for ~12 years and now moved away here’s my advice.

A few lakes host great fishing of any species… Then the word gets out and winter bucket fisherman knock her back down for a few years.

There’s always a few that are golden, the rest got pounded previous years.

It’s a cyclic area due to fishing pressures. Dont matter how tight your lips are, someone will spill the beans eventually.

Long story short, ample opportunity to fish, I won’t say which are best right now… Because I still have friends who are enjoying the bite in the area

There are some decent walleye lakes around guys. It is not going to be as good as further up north or even the SW MN lakes as far as eye fishing goes.

Plenty to be had though. Not all of these are LeSueur county but as a rule, you best year in year out are going to be: Washington, Tetonka, Madison, French, Mazaska, Cannon.

There are also plenty of other smaller prairie type lakes that can and do produce. I won’t name them, but look them up on the lakefinder and you should do alright.
