Need to buy a new mower. I need self propelled. I live on a hillside that has no options for a riding lawn mower. I’ve been here 25 years and have gone through 3 mowers. Hillside and rocks.

The best mower was a Lawn boy and it was my first mower. Do they still make them like they use too? They now have a rear wheel drive and an all wheel drive. Any experience with the all wheel drive? That’s where I’m leaning because of my hillside? Thanks.

I would think that you would need at least a 2 cycle (which a lawn boy was) mower unless there are newer technologies for the oil to lubricate the cylinder walls on a 4 cycle motor for hilly landscapes.

Maybe you can look into the mowers that run on battery power. Right now some names escape me. Good luck!

Yes, Lawnboy was the king of the hillside mowers because the 2 stroke engines didn’t starve for lubrication. They would last forever except if you hit a rock. The lower bearing in the engine does not take kindly to a bent shaft and when the lower bearing goes it’s generally not fixable.

I’ve always loved Lawnboy mowers. The old 2 strokes are just connected with my idea of summer. I have a Lawnboy from 1977. It’s my favorite mower ever. They literally don’t make them like this anymore. 2 stroke, magnesium deck, light as a feather.

Gary is right, electric is worth looking at for your use. In fact, if you bought a good one, this is probably the better option these days if looking to buy new.

I know Husqvarna has a version that is self-propelled and I think I saw it will mow a half acre on a charge. I’d have to think a quality brand electric will last you a long time, probably your best option for a sidehill.

I purchased the all wheel drive lawnboy. Had to order it on line. It is free shipping to my door. Funny thing is no stores have this particular model on their floor. Menards cannot get it. I had to order through Home Depot but they also do not have it on site.

Ordering or buying an electric just makes me feel small. rotflol

I get the 2 stroke thing but I would think the rear wheel drive or all wheel drive would more important, because you tend to lift the front tires pushing up hill.

They also claim that these are built for hills. I’ll find out. Thanks. Shawn
